Yes, it is big enough for a grey squirrel. Opening is 2"x3" when door is pushed open.

It's not a trap, it's a one way gate, but I think what you want to know is, will it stop a rodent from entering? Yes, it can stop adolecents and adults. Anything younger than that doesn't move around all that much anyway.

Q: Are the cage holes, grid metal, small enough to keep the rat contained after it has enter the cage?

Trap is designed to allow egress through to an open end where once out, animal can’t return. Since end is open, it’s not really a cage. Metal grid is small enough to ensure egress is at end only

Q: What if hole in my home is larger than this product"s opening/door?

The traps come in various sizes. But if the entry hole is a bit larger than the trap you buy, you stuff the copper netting material into the corners to plug up those spots. The rodents seem to not like the material and tend to avoid it- though not completely. If the opening is still too big, you could probably fill in by tacking on some screening or hardware cloth.
