I don't make candles routinely, so no way to compare with anything else. I appreciate the fact that sticks with a hole in the middle came with the wicks. However, because I was not experienced, I thought the stick would keep the wick straight only to realize later I was expecting too much when I saw the tip of the wick sank down from the heat. So you may need to find a way to keep tension. Good value and good product.

The wood wicks seem very thin, so I used 2. When burning, the 2 wicks burned separately so I'll try using a single next batch

I used these on my 2.5 in diameter jars for soy wax candles and theyve proven to be an effective wick for that size. They do get a little of that build up on the wick but the candles burn for a long time and evenly to the bottom of the jar. The wicks heat throws the fragrance well and makes an overall good candle. These wicks and stickers were easy to place and position and have been great to work with.
