Q: Will this work as well on an elbow to prevent pressure?

Best to buy one made specifically for elbow. I bought these for my mother a few years ago for her heels, which work very well, but when needing cushioning for her elbow which was beginning to break down, unlike the constant bend in the foot, these won't allow for any straightening of the elbow so they are too restrictive and did not work.

Perhaps, you haven't dried the protector thoroughly. Please cut wool in the area where it smells bad. You can also try using a softener and drying it with a paper towel right after washing the item.
