Q: can you paint these chairs

Use a deck stain before assembling. The chair will last you 8+ years. I used Valspar One-Coat exterior stain & sealer. The rain just bounces off. If you don't seal these chairs they'll last 2 - 3 years & will look like crap by the 2nd.

Q: Is this chair pre-sanded or does it have a rough finish?

It's definitely planed, but not sanded. Requires some sanding before staining or painting.

Q: I just bought these and I received the box with no hardware or directions on how to assemble. Any suggestions on what to do?

Unfortunately I'm not the seller of the product, but i received your question. Q: Product description says made out of "durable" wood, then "cedar" wood then "fir." Does anyone know for sure what kind of wood it's made out of?

Description says it is made of hemlock wood (similar to pine) with a natural fir finish. The fir finish looks like a very light shade of stain.
