Q: Was it difficult/easy to mount?

Depends upon what you are mounting it to....if using the materials included to mount to a wall....easy. I wanted to put it on my refrigerator. No magnets came with it. I bought two 12-inch magnetic strips and glued them on the back with super glue. That was easy but it required a trip to the store. Looks great. Keep in mind that not all refrigerator fronts (ie stainless steel) are magnetic.

Q: Will this rust if placed outside at a pool club? The wood ones disintegrate after a year.

It is a ferrous metal bulletin board with no obvious kind of coating on the surface. I would expect it to rust in wet & humid environments. We have ours on the side of a kitchen cabinet, where it performs admirably.

Q: Do the pushpins have to be specialized ones that Umbra makes, or could you use, say, generic office pushpins?

They do not work on XL board outside of the the edges. Only about 1.5" away from the edge push pins hold. The rest of my board is hollow of the inside. Magnets have to be very strong to hold paper. It was very disappointing waiste of money, if we were not in pandemic and it was easy to mail back, I would get rid of it.

I think so, although you would see the "seam". The edges are a bit rounded, not sharp. I think it would look fine. I love this bulleting board.
