The Amazing Book is Not on Fire by Dan Howell (2015-10-08)

I love these guys! This is the second YouTube book I've ever read (Hannah Hart's being the first) and I find that reading them makes me appreciate my most beloved YouTubers even more. As I write this, my copy of Tyler Oakley's new book just released and my pre-order shipped mere hours ago. I hope to read many more books written by YouTubers in the future to gain a better understanding and appreciation of who these entertainers are on a different level. Writing and releasing a book is such a very personal thing to do and I love imagining that one day I'll be admiring my book collection when I stumble upon these and reminisce on the good times I had laughing at people on the internet (SPOILER ALERT: not unlike the book's futuristic trailer). TABiNoF is truly exactly what anyone who considers themselves a Dan and Phil fan would expect it to be: Funny, charming, sarcastic, and bursting with inside jokes shared with anyone who has had the pleasure of enjoying their content. I was curious as to how two dominant personalities could come together to make one piece of literature and was pleasantly pleased to find that the story read much like a conversation between them would. There were quite a few times in which I caught myself hearing the words I was reading in their voices in my head. It was almost as if my brain went on autopilot and Dan and Phil started to steer (which I'm just now realizing is terrifying). Additionally, it wasn't until I read this book and found myself thinking "I already knew most of this about them" that I started to consider how truly invasive we are as an audience when it comes to our favorite online entertainers. Dan and Phil and others like them have pretty much forsaken all forms of privacy in order to distract us from our everyday lives. I expected the book to be a little more telling than the final product was when, in reality, it was more of a complete accumulation of everything that is "Dan and Phil." It is, essentially, their world in a book. By no means do I intend for that to sound like a negative comment, however I do think it is important for the reader to know that there isn't going to be much information in the book that isn't already known to the common subscriber. It is, nevertheless, fun and quirky and cute, just like they are. PS: I'm convinced Dan is the actual author for all of the embarrassing fanfictions I've read in the past few years. That was some seriously talented writing!

I am using my dad's account to give this review because I don't have one of my own yet. My parents bought me this book for my birthday because I am a fan of Dan and Phil and asked them to and I would like to say that 'The Amazing Book Is Not On Fire' is, well, amazing! It's fun, colorful, and comedic, just like Dan and Phil's videos. It is also full of mixed emotions; Excitement, joy, love, sadness, and it may give you 'the feels'. They have you laughing one minute, saying 'What the?' the next, and towards the end you may feel a bit sad and like me have an existential crisis. Side note: Dan's fan fiction starts off a bit sad, but it has a somewhat happy ending. The only issue I had with it was trying to read Dan's dream diary, the writing was so small and cramped, and I can't read cursive all that well to begin with so I had to skip that page, but I would certainly recommend it to friends and family whether they're fans or not.

They did such a good job! Well written, very funny and lots of great photos: everything a proper Dan and Phil fan wants is in this book. If you've only just begun to enter their world, this is a great place to start! These two young men have captured a place in the hearts of their fans because they are genuine, intelligent and very, very funny. Their sense of humor comes across perfectly in print, and their friendship is both apparent and fun to share in. As an "older" Phan fan (42), I was a bit concerned that this book wouldn't have been written with me in mind, but I can tell you honestly that from the first page, I felt included and accepted. This is truly a gift from Dan and Phil to all of their fans and I am proud to count myself as one of them!

PLEASE NOTE: I did NOT buy the book directly from D&P. It looks used, because I BOUGHT it used. From what I've seen, the people who bought it directly from them have pristine, beautiful book covers, so don't be deterred by my cheapness! Worth the buy! I'm not much of a book buyer, mostly because it annoys me that the items just sits around forever once I'm done reading it and it's hard to "re-use" them when you've already gone through it all.. But this was great. It was fun, cute, included a lot I didn't know, and it's so diverse that I'm able to go back and re-read some things instead of letting it sit on the shelf and collect dust.

I have been waiting so long for this and it's finally out, and I absolutely love it! It's a proper book, very nice quality and glossy pages. I haven't looked through the whole thing yet, but from what I've read so far, it's absolutely hilarious and there are SO. MANY. CUTE. PICTURES. This book wasn't put together by some publishing company to make money. It genuinely feels like Dan and Phil put their heart and soul into this book. I also kind of like how it's sort of an "insider's scoop" of sorts to their past, and present. It's not stuff that we already know from watching their videos, that's for sure! There's lots of new material in here to enjoy. Their personalities shine through on every page, and I can't be more proud of them to have come this far. If you, too, love Dan and Phil, and want to get to know more about them, get this book!

I'm about to be 25 - I love all the work and dedication that went into making this. You don't even have to know -everything- about Dan and Phil for this book to be hilarious. It has its moments and is very appealing from an artsy point of view. A lot of the photos and drawings are great glimpses and snapshots into the lives of these guys and you can tell they really wanted to include as much as they could. I love it and I love listening to the audiobook while looking at it. It makes the experience more fun.

私は長い間、iBooksで購入したものを電子端末で見ていたのですが、この本のメイキング映像を見て、彼らがいかに本の細部にこだわっていたのかを知り、こちらの形態も買うことにしました。電子書籍よりも若干高くついたのですが、現在に至るまで一度も後悔した事はありません。 内容に関しては電子書籍と全く一緒で、ほかの方が仰っている通りですが、本当に充実のひとことです。2人の誕生から今に至るまで、沢山のことが書かれていて、読み終わる頃にはなんだか、おかしなことですが、親の気持ちのようになります笑。 全体的に緩急(？)がついていて、びっしり文字というページもあれば写真だけのページもあり、全体としては分量の多い本ですが、最後まで飽きることなく読み進めることが出来ます。 また、大きな流れはあるのですが、基本的には各セクションが独立しているので、頭から絶対に読まなければならないということもありませんし、気になったとこからつまみ読みすることも可能です。ちなみに私は最初、『Phanga』から読みました。これの出来は……えっと……はい。笑 最後に、 私はあまり、『ダンフィルは日本が好き！』と主張することが好きではないのですが、この本に関しては、端々に日本への愛情が表されていて、彼らの温かい気持ちに、日本人として嬉しく思わずにはいられないです。 日本紀行をはじめ、表紙から裏表紙までよく見ると馴染み深いものが写っていたりするのは、また違う意味で楽しいですし、嬉しいものです。 もし今まで海外のYoutuberに興味を持ったことがない人だとしても、何処か似た感覚を持っているのではないかと思えるような、そんな親しみやすさに溢れた愛らしい２人なので、是非これを気に興味を持ってみてください♡ 個人的には、いつか日本でもTATINOFツアーのようなものを開催していただきたいなと思っております。 少しでも皆様の参考になれば幸いです。 買って絶対損なしですよ📣('ᴗ' )و💕

Semplicemente fantastico! Per chi non li conoscesse consiglio di andare a vedere i loro video su Youtube (danisnotonfire e AmazingPhil rispettivamente). Sono in inglese, come il libro del resto, ma credetemi, ne vale davvero la pena. Consigliato per chi è "nerd", pigro fino all'inimmaginabile e in cerca di un bel passatempo leggendo storie e disavventure di questi due ragazzi che sono passati dall'essere nessuno a intervistare personaggi famosi, avere il loro show radiofonico e portare sorrisi e buonumore sui visi del loro pubblico. Credetemi, vi sorprenderanno :)

For anyone that binge-watches Dan and Phil, has heard of them, or is just simply curious as to why a bunch of thirteen year olds are spazzing out over this, BUY. THIS. BOOK. I'm not kidding. I spent 3 hours reading this (I'm ADD and there's a lot that the book offers), and let me say for the record that this was NOT a disappointment. 1. The visuals are amazing: Each page brings something new and unique, thus making it aesthetically pleasing... 2. Readers feel as though they are interacting with them: There are sections that break the fourth wall, and the dialogue's format makes for a casual setting... 3. They mention topics such as anime/manga, and so this definitely reaches out to a broader audience... 4. It's a child's book, but...It's not. Some of the themes and sections were intended to reach out to younger readers, sure, but note that there's mild swearing in the book with the addition of dirty jokes here and there, which ultimately makes the book... 5. ...More humorous. Dan and Phil are comical in general, with Phil being a cinnamon roll and Dan being the emo fanboy (which makes their communication even funnier), and this gives the book a lighthearted feel... 6. The book is current: This was somewhat expected, considering that they're YouTubers and so they sort of HAVE to mention YouTube, but they do mention other topics that people are currently interested in... And, for the last and most important reason of all- 7. IT'S FUN. Many teenagers (including me on various occasions) have to drag themselves through books, but the format and mood of this makes this an enjoyable read. Sure, it's not To Kill A Mockingbird or a "classic" read, assuming the context of classic is to be an older story with enhanced vocabulary, but it's got rich illustrations, entertaining storytelling and good morality, which, in my perspective, is the most important aspect of a book. If you're reading this in the consideration of buying the book, just stop reading the sentence and spend your money on this: I can personally guarantee that you, my friend, will not be disappointed.
