Great little radio. Sound quality is excellent.

I bought the Powerbear radio last week, and have been using it everyday...probably a total of 30 hours of listening while in the garden, and moving it around with me, from area to area as I was weeding my plants. Nothing has broken yet :) and so far, battery life is good with cheap batteries...I mean 30 hours and the cheap dollar store batteries are still going strong. I am impressed with the reception of this Powerbear radio. Reception is probably the main thing I look for in a small radio, because my favorite station has a weak signal and their transmitter is 50 miles away. This inexpensive radio picks up this station better than most radios I own, and I own a lot of them. The antenna seems to move smoothly and does it's job. This powerbear has a striking resemblance to the Sony ICF-S10MK2 (an excellent radio in most all aspects, which is now discontinued and very expensive to buy a NOS or a nice used one), but the replacement model (Sony ICFP26) is just as good, but is twice the price of the Powerbear. The rest of my Powerbear review will be comparing it to the Sonys. The Powerbear came packaged in a sturdy and fancy box, which I was surprised at, because of it's price point. The ICFP26 came it cheap packaging that isn't likely to protect it during shipping, depending on how Amazon packs your items. The ICF-S10MK2, if you find an unopened one, comes it a plastic blister pack, and it well protected. For my use, the the two big pluses about the Powerbear is, it has better reception then the Sonys and the Powerbear has the capability of louder volume. OK, now the things about the Powerbear that are seemingly of less quality than the Sonys. 1. The Sound quality is "tinny", no Bass sounds at all, so if you prefer to listen to music, you may be disappointed. The very treble-like audio is just fine for me, and MAYBE EVEN BETTER if you listen to talk radio like I do. The Station I listen to is all Talk, and I find that voices are more easily understood, than with the Sonys that I own. 2. The Volume control dial feels flimsy, but for now, it is working just fine. Maybe it'll last a long time? I hope so. The on-off part of the dial does have a nice click, so that part feels OK. 3. The AM-FM switch also feels flimsy. Again, it is working fine for now. 4. The frequency indicator leaves a lot to be desired, as mentioned in many other reviews. Some reviews stated their indicator wasn't visible or just not moving when dial is turned. I guess I might be lucky, the indicator on mine moves fine and is easy to see. BUT, it could have been better "zero'd in" at the factory, although the amount that it's off, isn't a major problem. I haven't used the earphone jack. I hope this review helps you out.

Very easy to use for general listening, good sound quality, battery life lasts a very long time.. It's a bit tricky to dial in exact radio stations, so if you're using it to broadcast to on a specific station, I would recommend getting one with a digital readout that lets you tune in exactly.

Given the size and price of this little radio, I didnt have high expectations regarding its performance. I was pleasantly surprised! I live somewhat out in the country, and have spotty cell phone coverage, so I wasn't sure if I could pull in a radio station with this radio. It pulls in several stations quite clearly, with the antenna! The sound is good, and can be turned up loud enough for me to hear it in The next room! I listen to it every morning for about an hour, and most evenings, and have yet to change the batteries. I've been using this radio for a few weeks now. Its a great size (about the size of a smaller smart phone), and easy to throw in a backpack when I go camping. I'm considering buying more for family members. Great value overall! Update 4-24-21: So I've been using this radio daily for a little over a year now. It's still running strong. I've only had to change the batteries 4 times, which is impressive with the amount of hours I use it each week. The stations come in great, even after my grandson broke the top section of the antenna off. I would definitely purchase this radio again!

After it arrived, I realized just how cheaply made this product was. Honestly, it's more like a $3.99 radio. It looks like it could smash to pieces from a slight fall. The controls/wheels/sliders are not smooth, where the dial for changing stations is very rough to the point where it's immensely difficult and often impossible to pinpoint an exact station because it requires a smooth scroll to keep it in that exact spot without hitting the next station up or down, as well as the control slider for the AM/FM that is so rough I fear if I used daily it would definitely break, like it's rough and getting stuck every time you slide it. You can barely even see the gauge move in the clear plastic section when you change stations where it indicates just where you are on the numbers scale, as often I have to go where there is sunlight coming in from the window just to see where it is. Would it have killed them to make this a neon, white, or bright red color instead of the dull one that it is? The antenna does feel like it's not designed to stay on for very long, and when that comes off, the radio is basically useless. I ordered this at the same time I ordered a portable NOAA radio, which I assembled and tried first, and after going through all the stations on it and making a list of what I get so I could put some in the favorites function, one of those was my favorite station. Then when I went to THIS radio, I barely even picked up the station to the point where rolling the dial at first did not even pick it up. I then had to go to the other radio to see what was playing on my favorite station which came in very loud and clear on that one, on a radio that's even cheaper $$ than this one, and then slowly dial my way through a lot of staticy stations just to find that song and then try to move the dial back and forth to get it to come in semi-clear. It finally came in, but it's not as clear as others. This is disturbing because this is a very local radio station on which every other radio I've ever had for 20 years lets it come in loud and clear, and only on this one does it come in as though it's 60 miles away. Ridiculous. The only reason I got this radio was because the reviews said the batteries would last weeks, whereas the portable NOAA that I wanted to use for when hurricanes hit had reviews that said the batteries died after a day. I then decided I would use the NOAA only during hurricanes, not leaving it on for alerts, and putting in the batteries when the hurricane hits and turning it off when I'm not listening. I don't need a radio that would not take a whole lot of batteries away from my stock so that I could at least listen to music all day during the boring hurricane week with power out, and I picked THIS one only for that reason!!! Now that I know my favorite local radio station that comes in perfectly fine on every other radio is coming in on this one like it's a foreign station, I know I made a poor choice. It's just ridiculously cheaply made radio and the antenna could be WAY better reception-wise across the board on all stations, not just a few. I thought I made a good purchase after research, because I really want a small one like this and not a big one and not one with a crank and a battery inside that will wind up dying after two years anyway just like cell phone batteries. The description and pictures make this look more high-quality than it really is. This is one of the most lightweight pieces of junk I ever owned, and that includes one that I got from a bank for opening up an account. This is really flea market quality. When radios that cost less than this pick up stations loud and clear and this one can't, it's time to return it & look for something else.

Use for hunting on overnight trips without cell service. Works great, good sound, good range, long battery and light.

Buscava um rádio compacto, com material de qualidade e realmente o Power Bear superou minhas expectativas. Sintoniza todas as estações e o som é limpo. Além do mais é muito bonitinho. Valeu a pena.
