NEVER GOING BACK TO CHEMICAL DYES!
I've ordered this product 3 times over the past year and will continue to do so. I was a natural redhead (copper) all my life, but as I hit my 30s, my hair turned mousy brown with white patches. I tried boxed dyes and salon color, but my hair started thinning and breaking after a few years of that, and the color was never consistent, not to mention the dangerous health concerns with those products. So after my husband begging me to please reduce my risk of a brain tumor, I agreed to stop using the chemical dyes and try henna. What a difference! My hair is thick and shiny with the dark copper color I grew up with! Additionally, my new growth comes in a darker brown now, evidence that the nutrients in the powdered henna (and other leaves) are repairing years of damage from the chemical dyes. That also gives me the advantage of waiting longer between treatments. No more pale roots I need to rush to color! Additionally, I have no issues with fading color, but I don't know if it's because I leave it on a couple hours or if it's because I was already a natural redhead and my hair is structured to retain copper pigments, which have larger molecules than other colors. The smell does take some getting used to, as other posters mention. I mix mine with dark hot coffee, a little coconut oil and a couple tbsp of ACV. I also put in a few drops of essential oils like lavender or peppermint oil for the smell. Like a poster above mentioned, the henna smell can stick with you. The first few months I would sweat and it smelled of henna. Just a really strong herbal/grassy scent. But my body seems to have gotten over that now. My daughter also uses the brown "henna" from Rainbow and after years of pulling her hair out from trich, the henna gives her a massive growth boost! Yes, it's messy. It's time consuming. And you will spend up to half an hour in the shower rinsing the green muddy sludge from your hair and scalp. Take your time and make the most of it. Use your most luxurious shampoo and conditioner and play your favorite music. And enjoy your healthy red mane!

Great coverage!
I dyed my hair several weeks ago with a “Demi-permanent” dye that I found out after had peroxide in it and really did bleach my hair some, especially the ends. My goal had been to have something for a few weeks and then go natural again or pick another color, but the bleaching made me want to just correct and mitigate the damage. I decided to go for henna since it conditions and strengthens and saw Rainbow henna as a recommended brand. I decided to go for burgundy as I wasn’t wanting a fire-truck red and mixed it up! I used hot water as instructed, plus about 2tbsp lemon juice, and then mixed in probably 4-5tbsp cheap conditioner to make it easier to apply. I applied right away, then wrapped in a shower cap and put on my heat cap for 2 60-minute cycles. I washed out with water then used more cheap conditioner to get out the remaining grit. I blow dried to see color right away so my hair came out very straight haha. I washed with cleansing conditioner the next night just to make sure I was grit free, braided it, and let it dry naturally. The color definitely darkened a bit over 48 hours and is a lovely auburn that shines more red in sunlight vs artificial lights. I’m very happy with it overall. For 2 hours of work, it’s a nice lovely color and my hair feels fantastic! Images: Hair braided: before dyeing. Straight: as soon as henna was washed out. Wavy: after 48 hours.

Wrong product in the jar....a horrible orange instead if the rich deep auburn color.
I have been buying Rainbow Henna for years. I use a mix of the dark brown, medium brown, burgundy and a bit of indigo/black and have been happy with the results. However, this last jar of burgundy was not the usual rich deep color. It looked more like medium brown but even more of a copper color....not a good color for me. Even looking at the powder in the jar you could see it was an orange brown color. The burgundy usually is darker and has more blue. I think somebody put the wrong henna mix in the jar labeled burgundy.

Best henna I’ve tried
I was addicted to the rouge henna from Lush and about a year ago they changed their formula and it was complete garbage(they have since switched back to the original recipe because of the backlash from fans) so I was in a hunt for a henna that gave me similar results and this stuff is great! I have tried the copper and the red! Copper gave more of a orangey hue and the red is bright and vibrant! I did miss the added moisturizing ingredients that Lush adds so I mixed this powder with a can of coconut milk and it’s perfect! Plus it is actually was less messy than the lush version I had been using for 5 years so this may be my new favorite overall!Plus the price point is pretty cheap! I have medium/ long length although my hair is pretty thin but I easily get to uses out of This jar! And compared to the $31 dollar price point for lush (also two uses) that’s great! If you are new to henna a few tips: never use metal to mix your henna whether it be a spoon or mixing bowl, metal can change the composition of the henna! Be sure to prep with lots of paper towels! Line your hairline with Vaseline or something similar if you want to avoid stains! Always use gloves! And be sure that the area you are dying in is either lined with paper or old towels because it does crumble and tend to get everywhere! Also heat is your friend with henna! Wrapping your head in plastic wrap then wrapping with a towel or cap is great and you can also put a blow dryer on it for 20-30 min to active that color more! I have also added lemon to this in the past to brighten up the color as well! Happy dying!

My recipe for success - also covers gray
I’ve been using this henna for over 10 years to tame frizz, make my dull hair more vibrant and shiny, and now to cover gray. Much cheaper and healthier than the salon or store bought dyes! *You must let your dyed hair grow out before applying henna. 1. Wear 2 very large old t-shirts reserved for dying your hair. Wrap old towel around your shoulders. Use coconut oil on forehead and sides of face and back of neck. Wear plastic gloves. Only use glass bowls & plastic spoons to mix. NO metal! Saran Wrap, blow dryer, another old towel and do in front of a mirror. 2. Recipe for medium length brown hair: Mix with plastic spoon in glass bowl: NO metal! 1/3 cup + 2Tbsp powder (can use half burgundy & medium brown to tone down burgundy. 2Tbsp apple cider vinegar 2 Tbsp coconut oil (melted) - conditioner & binder 1/3 cup + 2 Tbsp HOT strong coffee - covers grey! Gives highlights over gray strands and a rich shine, also moisturizers hair. (Quickly mix well, use while warm, should be consistency of thick yogurt, not runny) 3. Section clean dry hair beginning with back of head first. 4. When entire head is covered with thick mixture, take off gloves, wrap head quickly with plastic Wrap 4-5 times (depending on thickness of hair) until well covered. Immediately use blow dryer on hot setting for at least 15 minutes better if longer (henna is heat activated for long lasting coverage). Immediately pull one T-shirt over your head and cover the plastic wrap to hold heat in. Wrap towel around head also. Keep on for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Watch tv, don’t move around a lot. 5. With plastic gloves, rinse hair thoroughly with warm (not hot) water. Then use small amount of baby shampoo for final rinse. *Don’t wash hair for 24 hours to let color last longer (lasts6weeks for me) I also put coconut oil on my scalp for conditioning. 6. Use half recipe for touch up and covering grays. I get 3-4 uses out of one container. Very affordable!

No carcinogenic chemicals to "fry" your brain!
I am 73 y/o & have used henna since I was about 25 y/o. Through all those years, my favorite brand & color was Hennalucent Sunset Glo. It was inexpensive, smelled *great*(!), was ultra easy & simple (just add very hot/near boiling tap water), & was very quick (just 45-60 minutes, no 10-12 hour mixing or wearing processes!), & it was very long lasting. Best of all, it made my hair super shiny & strong, & was always dependable with BEAUTIFUL results. Even my hairdressers always complimented me on the natural looking color & healthy condition of my mid-back to waist length hair. Sadly, however, Hennalucent was discontinued about 10-12 yrs ago by the maker. Since then I've used several different brands in various shade variations of Red. Some were just way, WAY too red (think circus clown wig red), some brands just didn't last long enough & seemed to take longer to mix & apply than the amount of time the color lasted on my hair. Several brands were WAY to gritty, smelled bad, or required way too many steps & additional ingredients to work correctly. Some seemed to dry my hair out & leave it in worse condition rather than better. I know & readily admit I was definitely spoiled by my discontinued favorite henna brand. However, after much searching & testing of available brands, I'd have to say that Rainbow brand henna is definitely the one I had the best results from. Even better it was the most reasonably priced & required the least amount of additional ingredients, extra prep efforts or time. I prefer things quick, easy, & stress free. I highly recommend Rainbow brand henna & I am definitely a continuing return customer.

Love it!
I have been using this brand for about 12 years now, and I will never use another. The quality is amazing, and I am always so impressed with the results. Burgundy works great for my dark brown hair to hide greys and give a glossy hint of reddish shine to my hair.

1st time henna user #hennafordummies
I've been wanting to to try henna on my natural hair for a while. I have stubborn grays and the box stuff wasn'the cutting it. I'd also gotten tired of the chemicals in box hair dye. I searched and researched.Facebooked and watched YouTube video. I was going to give up because people kept saying it was difficult to work with. I came across this product. It was reasonably priced, shipped fast and the pics of the user's looked great. I ordered it before I could talk myself out of it. I had previously gotten my hair dyed and it was a debacle. My hair turned orange. I'don't had another stylist go over it with a burgundy rinse which corrected my Home Depot colored hair. The rinse was fading so I got the burgundy henna. I followed the directions to use half of the mixture and add freshly brewed black tea to activate it. I also used 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to color my grays better. (Another reviewErica suggested that) and 1 tbsp olive oil(again another reviewer suggested that). I was a bit skeptical because the paste was dark green, not red as I thought it would be. I put it on, using plastic gloves (not provided so make sure you have some) paying extra attention to my really gray area (front of head and edges.) I put on a clear plastic showercap and sat under a hot dryer for 60 mins. (Again, a suggestion from another site). I read somewhere that it was best to keep it on all day and just cover my hair with a scaffolding or wrap. I didn't have time to do that so I followed the instructions on the container and sat for 60 mins. I rinsed it out with cold water. Make sue you rinse it good. It dries so there is small bits of what I can only described as clay like peices which have to be washed out. I also used a conditioner too. The color was perfect! A deep vibrant red which matched my color perfectly. There was complete gray coverage! The package said it lasts 6 weeks but it's safe to use weekly. I can't see a need for weekly applicants. In fact it's been about four and my hair still looks great! I highly recommend this product. It wasn't messy to apply. It did take a long time and the color is great! ANYONE CAN DO THIS!
