Do the holes have threads so you can screw in a bolt?

Yes. The gauge is a thin piece of plastic and each hole is threaded. There is, of course, a limited number of threads because the plastic is thin. I believe it should be used gently to avoid damaging plastic threads. I believe it will be useful for identifying whether a screw has one standard thread (such as 1/4-NC20) or another standard thread (such as 1/4-NF28), but I don't think it can be used to finely test accuracy of threads cut on a lathe. I have not had an occasion to use it yet.

what is the thickness of this gauge?

My micrometer says it's about a quarter inch. The only caveat is it is a polymer gauge, good news is that means it's durable and can flex around truly messed up screws and bolts; the bad news is it's not super precise because it's not stainless or Ti. For example it might be hard to discern a 24 vs. 28 pitch thread, but in my experience in the machine shop it determines the right threading well especially when you are trying to match a screw that's broken, old or damaged.

will this guage work for very small computer screws ?

Yes! The guage goes down to M1.4 which is much smaller than any fastener that your going to find in any computer. The guage also has inch sizes down to #0 (.060 inch). Mike
