No it is not spring loaded like all other Klein strippers but it is easy to open and close.

Q: How well do these crimp compared to the dedicated Klein crimpers?

Well my friend, “jack of all trades master of none” it does everything pretty well but to as well as a dedicated tool. That being said I do not regret purchasing these strippers. 10 out of 10 would buy again.

Q: What is the purpose of the stub below the 6-32 screw shearer on the unpainted side?

Below the 6/32 shear is a crumpet for IDC/dolphin style wire crimps for low voltage connections.
