Very easy to use.
I made a piece of metal furniture and the metal was too shiny. I was looking for a more destressed look. This blackener created a real nice dark patina. worked surprisingly fast. I applied it outside and I could not detect any odor from the product. It worked so well I also used it on a metal sculpture that I was building. Excited to try it on some other projects

Blackens EVERYTHING
Okay, maybe not everything, but it works on most metals. No luck with aluminum or stainless. It will blacken nickel steel, carbon steel, and brass.

Use it more like paint than a soaking bath
There are several YouTube videos on the use of this stuff. More than once the reviewers state that the longer you leave something soaking in it, the darker the blackening will be. Yes, but ... Longer means 15-20 seconds as opposed to in and out. I let four parts soak for about two hours and it ruined both the parts and that batch of Jax. You really can't recover back to bare steel after that, as it soaks into the metal quite a bit and causes a brownish flaking reaction that goes on for weeks. So starting over and using it more like paint, it does quite well. It does not produce that glossy sheen that some blackened steels have. That seems to be the product of the heating and oil bath method of blackening. This is more of a flat dark grey patina, which is actually great for the application for which I got this stuff. SO in that respect, it's perfect. Oh, and after I made the mess on the first go around, I discovered some instructions on the Jax website that are vastly superior to the YouTube videos.

Product is Misrepresented
This product advertises that it works on steel. It did nothing to the steel buckets we were trying to use it on. I’m returning it but still lose part of my purchase price. Even with being a Prime member I have to pay the postage to return it.

Excellent Product
This product works as advertised…What I like about this product is that it is easier to darken metal than the “Anodizing” without the harsh chemicals used in the anodizing process.
