Essential garden tool
If you garden you need this! I have broken so many tools in my tough, rocky, clay soil that I had nearly given up hope of finding something that would hold up. This is the winner. Had one for over a year and my son accidentally buried it in a small drainage ditch we were digging. The shovel had snapped in half by this point trying to pry rocks out of the clay so he was using this and lost track of it. After a fruitless hour-long search in knee deep clay soup we finally came in and immediately ordered another. The blade is one solid piece that goes through the handle so no weak points for it to snap like a regular trowel. The serrated edge is great for cutting weeds, prickers, and also apparently through grass sod when your son transplants your peonies into random holes he dug in the yard instead of the garden like you asked ( just, why?). Anywho, it is a great tool, maybe just don't share it with your teenage son. Thanks for listening! 😅

Great sturdy tool; strongly recommend purchasing with sheath.
Great sturdy tool. I strongly recommend purchasing with sheath as it makes carrying it around the yard much easier.

Almost great.
I use horihori's at work, for digging up invasive plants and taking plant samples. There are alot of really great aspects of this one. The blade feels durable and strong, as in if you break it, you're grossly misusing this tool. Secondly the handle is comfortable, the wood feels nice, and there are no worries of your hand sliding down the blade as you'll have with the traditional design. As an added bonus the endcap is durable enough to help drive in tent stakes, but it lacks the mechanical advantage of a tent stake hammer. If you get it with the sheath, which is bulky and unattractive compared to the tool but so far seems well made and appearances aside well designed. The four stars rating is for the finishing of this product. After my first hitch with it the handle has the appearance of a tool handle which has been neglected for a couple of years. Secondly, the finish is low quality, the components simply do not fit together as well as they should, especially at this price point. Barebones should either lower the price or properly finish this product.

A sold and very attractive hori-hori.
I purchased this specifically with metal detecting in mind. When hunting, I use I special shovel to remove a plug of grass, but after I’m in the ground, if I need to dig further, I use a spade or hori-hori. Out of the box this hori-hori is impressive. It’s full tang heavy construction appears to be strong enough to tackle any job and the walnut handle is very attractive - far more attractive than any other digging tool I’ve used and allows attachment of a lanyard. The graduated markings on the face of the blade are nice without being cluttered with measurements. The top edge of the blade has a sharp serrated edge that will make quick work of roots, while the bottom edge is also fairly sharp with a very sharp hook suitable for cutting cord. If I had a complaint it would be that the very tip or point of the hori-hori, unlike its sharp sides, is very thick and blunt, far more so than any other hori-hori, trowel or spade I’ve ever owned. As a result, this wouldn’t be the easiest tool to push straight into the ground to remove a plug. Because of the good side bevel grind, I don’t expect this to be an issue for me, but if it is, it should be no problem to sharpen it up a bit. Certainly it is a sturdy tip for scraping. In the loose soil of a garden this should be perfect.

Great Quality and Price
My sister asked for this as a Christmas present since she’s really into gardening. I first tried to buy it off another site but found it cheapest here! I was surprised at how durable and great quality it is! The blade is a good thickness to hold up to a lot of use, and it’s very versatile in what you can use it for. The sheath makes it easy (and safer) to store in your garden bag, and the wooden handle gives it a comfortable fit in your hand, making it easy to use. I can see this being passed down through generations with how well it’s made. It’s a must have if you garden!

Buy it and you'll thank me for the recommendation
This is an unpaid rave. I paid for it, did not get it for free and have nothing to gain by this rave review except to offer it as a public service. This is probably my favorite Amazon purchase ever! I purchased it a couple of years ago at the suggestion of a naturalist who overseas a huge local park. I have been using this quite a bit for a few years now and although it's definitely more worn than it was originally, it remains very sharp and extremely effective. It has changed my gardening game. I use it instead of a shovel when I plant trees because it's better at cutting through underground layers of almost everything better than anything else. It can get rid of small old tree roots, but not large ones. I use it to plant flowers and to get rid of deep weeds because it's much better than any hoe or weeder I have ever purchased. Every time I'm done using it, I rinse it off and then use sanitizing wipes to thoroughly clean it and let it air dry before I put it away and this seems to keep it sharp, clean and as effective as the first day I bought it. I have recommended it too many people in my life who have purchased it since then and every single one of them tells me that they have had an equally positive experience. I wish I had known about this item before I bought my last well-reviewed but ultimately useless shovel because although this is a teeny fraction of the shovel's size, it is infinitely more effective and useful.
