Mpc the real deal

I’ve been a long MPC enthusiast!! I had the mpc 2000xl which launched my production career. I then gave it up to go into being a “laptop producer”. Well I can honestly say I suffered from “beat tweaking” or becoming a “beat zombie”. This is when you spend countless unnecessary hours making a beat and you look like a zombie staring at the laptop moving all these virtual knobs and sliders to get this perfect, or this sounding like that, or that moving like this. Well the MPC X is the solution to the aforementioned diagnosis! The MPC X gets you back to making the beat and then moving on to the next!! I have literally disconnected from the computer when doing music and the beats are faster and song sequencing is faster and more concise and simplified. Literally, turn it on, pick a project, then start making music. It just eliminates the “tweaker/zombie” mentality and gets you into what matters most, the beat. Pros-Touch screen allows for fluid interaction between software/hardware, Standalone-no need to tether to computer, upgradabilty, internal effects are easy to use, inputs outputs, and there’s more just don’t feel like typing this long Cons-YOU WILL NEED A INTERNAL SATA HARDDRIVE- 525g to be exact unless your sound library is 30years old then you’ll need 1tb, learning curve is steep to beginners (see pics MPC x does provide start up projects) but to MPC enthusiasts it will take you less than a day to learn Once you develop your work flow it will be come a cinch to construct beats and songs. Great job Akai!! Ask me questions if you need convincing, if not just get it and dive in! ‘Mamba-Out’;)

This machine is really fun. It has zero latency, the pads are the best I've tried, and the learning curve is there but if you have used a DAW before, you can quickly practice your way into understanding it. Along the way, you'll notice some really nifty features (especially Q-link knobs) that speed up workflow & encourage creativity. My favourite thing about this machine is how easy it is to get ideas out, and how fun it is to still be able to zombie-tweak when you feel like it. There are lots of VSTs in here, and while I'm still going to mix and master on desktop, the MPC has four cores & can easily handle all those effects.. So you can assign them even to individual pads, which greatly increases the music production potential you have. The sounds that come in the box are awesome. They're pretty comprehensive as far as the basics go, and you will have access to everything you'd need, unless you need something specific obvi. Also, there are a couple synths in here that you can connect your midi usb keyboard and play & record. They're actually really good. I believe AIR makes them. They sound good, and the bass synths are really helpful. I have a USB interface/mixer with a line output that I hook up to the MPC Live, and I use it to record guitars & vocals. Let me tell you, this box is a jam machine. It's so much fun! You can put a beat down, double it and double it again and again, and just put down a whole lot of ideas. Then, you can sift through them with the MPC on your lap, using the intuitive knobs & touchscreen to control things. It's a joy. The MPC live is a ton of fun. It's also, however, expensive. For much less than the price of this, you can put together a PC & USB MIDI keyboard/drumpad combo that can do essentially the same things this does. But come on.. this thing is so well put together, it just makes the process of creating music unique and fun. Drums sound great out of the box, and listening back to new ideas is so much more pleasant for that reason. Also, it's got a SIX HOUR BATTERY! Wow.. that I almost forgot about.. I really mean it. You can take this thing to a show, or in your car to a drive-thru parking lot, and genuinely not care about battery life. Just use it as you like, and as you occasionally glance at the battery percentage, it's reassuringly higher than you expected it to be after all this usage. That is something you won't find in most laptops running this kind of software continuously. So yeah.. If you are thinking about getting it, and if you've tried it somewhere & liked it, you likely won't be disappointed, as long as you can afford it. Otherwise, there are other ways to make music, and those ways are not inferior by any means. They're just a bit less cool :)

Love it. I've been using an Electribe 2 for the last year or so, and felt like it was time for an upgrade. Awesome machine. I haven't delved too deep into it yet, but so far everything I've tried to do with it has been fairly intuitive. Coming from a daw the workflow might be a little confusing, but coming from the Electribe, it wasn't all that different. The build quality is great. The touchscreen is easily one of the most accurate and responsive touchscreens I've used on any device. The only minor gripe I had was, when mine arrived, it was missing the power supply, but I called up Akai, and they're sending me one, so that's no biggie. In the meantime, I got a universal laptop charger that works with it just fine. (: Other than that little hiccup, I have no complaints. Five stars (

This is a fantastic piece of kit but didn't work for me within my setup as it was not easy to output files to computer software for further editing. Great if you like to do everything within the hardware though. Well made solid construction will certainly survive life on the road. Now the bad news. As this didn't work within my set[/workflow I returned the unit to Amazon. They charged me a $200 restocking fee! They never mentioned a restocking fee so I was surprised to find it had been subtracted from my return. If I had known I would have simply sold the unit on eBay or reverb. What a total rip off.
