Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Lovely edition - Beautiful hardback book, lovely collection of spells. Be aware that it has a very Christian focus, as does a lot of magic that was adapted after conversion, but can likely be deconstructed Review: The Real Folkways of the North. - A wonderful and brilliant book on Trolldom. A treasure-trove of lore and craft on the real life of Cunning Folk of Scandinavia. So be aware this is not a book on Heathenry. The book contains Folk magic and folklore influenced by the worldview of Christianity with aspects of Heathenry from that perspective. One word of note, on page 37, the author mentions in the chapter on Utnesittning that this technique is found in the Sagas particularly in the awakening of the Volva as found in Havamal. However this is surely found in Voluspa. Also the Runes are regarded as any written spell. However despite that, a good book if you are looking for Scandinavian 'Witchcraft/Cunning Arts'.

An excellent book.
This is an excellent book well worth buying. I've been fascinated by Northern European magic for many years, but believed it really began and ended with rune based magic and Icelandic Staves However this collection of magic spells and charms are amazing, giving us a real insight into Scandinavia and Nordic folk magic. Well worth reading! Could really do with being bought out in a quality hardback binding! and a shame it's not available in the UK and has to be ordered from the States.

A truly excellent book of Nordic magic as it really was (and is) practised
This is a truly excellent book of Nordic magic as it really was (and is) practised. In the first part of the book (introduction... glossary... brief history... terms of the art etc.), Johannes gives an excellent exposition of what it is to be 'Trollkunnig' - proficient in the arts of folk magic, as practised in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and among the emigrant communities in the New World. This exposition is followed by a comprehensive book of spells in the Scandinavian Trolldom tradition. In reading the book, I really have to take my hat off to the depth of research involved and, as a practical magician in the Northern tradition, I look forward to trying out some of the spells. Furthermore, Johannes' approach has given me valuable guidance concerning the possible approach towards my own next book. It is a prime source for all those who seek to perform magic in the Scandinavian tradition or, if not to practise, to study academically.

Worth waiting for!
This book has been worth waiting for! For anyone interested in folk magic and/or the cutural history of the Nordic people this is a must read. The author has no doubt put in a lot of time and effort to write this book and the hours spent on research must be tremendous. One of the first things that strikes me and proves the authors great knowledge is the way he puts the nordic Trolldom into a larger magical context, it makes the pieces of the puzzle come together. He also straigthens out some misconceptions about the norse "asatru", which was far less used than modern nationalromantics want us to beleive. It has a good description of the backgrund and logic behind Trolldom and is also filled with spells for different uses. The big difference between this book and others that I have read on the subject is that the author is a real practioner himself. He do not belong to the folkloristic research camp who makes fun of the "supersticiousness" of the old days. I have been fortunate to come across the author at a time when I needed some magic to solve a difficult issue in my life and I can assure you that he is the real thing. Both you who are just curious about the ways of the old days from a historical perspective or you who want some real practical hands-on advice about real nordic magic will find plenty of nuggets in this unique book.

I don’t understand why people explain in the review section. This book is about FOLK MAGICK. That alone should be enough of a hint that there will probably be Christianity involved. Sure, if you’re looking for pre-Christian stuff, go read another book, this one is not for you. But since it’s about folk magick, this book is great! Definitely recommend it to anyone interested in actual Scandinavian folk magick.

I love this book. I seen people complaining that there are Christian spells in here - if they were smart they would study the structure of the spell then just rewrite it in a pagan context, for example: instead of “ in the name of god the father, son and Holy Ghost say “in the name of Thor, Odin and Frigga”. This gives many examples of the types of troll formulas that were in use and Johannes’ commentary about their structure. I’m currently taking Johannes’ class online which is invaluable if you’re looking to really become a trolldom practitioner. I’ve actually used a spell from this book to catch a thief the other day and it worked! My girlfriends brother stole the package, which I suspected, so I put the piece of parchment with the spell written in my blood (which I got from flossing my teeth and mixed with dragons blood ink) where it was stolen late at night and the next day he gave my girlfriends mother the package to give me back once she informed him it was mine and not my girlfriends. This was all after he claimed he left it on the porch when he seen it was my girlfriends 😂😂

I love this book!!! It has helped me connect with my Scandinavian heritage that has been lost and I’m just glad to be reclaiming the folk magic of my ancestors, this is a truly special book in my craft. Thank you so much Johannes Björn Gådbäck, you have helped me reconnect with what was lost in time in my lineage ❤️❤️❤️❤️
