I’ve started straw bale raised beds this year, and needed to see how well and fast the inside temperature of the bale was doing as I primed it with water and blood, fish and bone etc. It needs to be a certain heat as it turns into compost, so this very long thermometer is perfect for that. It reacts very quickly and is marked in red and green to show optimum temperatures for your composting. I usually need glasses to read but this is easy to read without them which means I don’t have to wear them ( and lose yet another pair in the nettles etc) so I’m very pleased. And I’ve already started cropping from my bales planted out in May. The thermometer is Very good for soil temperature generally if you’re planting out fragile plants that don’t like cold soil. Well worth the money for my needs.

Works but has collected some moisture in the dial. Doesn’t affect the working though.

Recently got into the composting rabbit hole as I suspect many others here have, I have a small box composter in my yard which isn't too tall to the size of this 30cm prod was perfect for the job, it also came in compostable packaging which was nice. Careful when inserting as it wanted to slip to the side often and I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to snap it pushing down against unbroken card etc.

I bought 2 x of these compost thermometer. The size of the Garden probe is great. I built the thermometre- into the large compost bin, built . Have to cover it with a plant lid cover when it rains. Its not waterproof . For the price it could have come with a cover for the face- or have made it waterproof . Unsure how long they will last. Cannot sppeak to its accuracy the colour coding on the face dial is brilliant. Another review mentioned callibrating it with ice water. This was not in the intsructions- from memory there were no insttructions. Better build is - It needs to be waterproof, will post photo when storage on android is restored.

It works fine but make sure that it isn't too short for checking the temperature inside your compost heap. You may need a longer one

The probe is long enough to get properly into the heap with a clear and easy to read dial. I can't comment on the accuracy of reading (how do you check?!) but otherwise this was perfect for my compost heaps. It is important to know that the heap gets up to temp (to compost properly and kill weeds/seeds/pathogens etc) and when the heap needs turning to keep the process going. I produce 5-8m3 of compost a season from 5 quite large compost bays on a rotational basis and it can be easy to lose track of which heap needs turning and when - this sorts that problem for me.

Ok quality

Does what it says on the tin. Quickly gives the temperature of compost or soil. Takes maybe 30 seconds and you are done. Probe is sturdy and long enough for checking as deep as you'll need in any garden, unless you are growing specialised plants, in which case, you'll be spending hundreds. Been using it to monitor and adjust my compost, and it is perfect in this role.

Made another 2 compost bins in the growing garden, and I am so happy with this, I bought another 2. Works well, and so far hasn't broken.
