I needed to improve the traction on a pair of steps on a lightweight 3-step ladder that I use frequently when washing my truck. The bare aluminum steps always seemed extra slippery when stepping down. I tried out the Lifegrip Anti-Slip Traction Tape (2" wide) - the surface is definitely sandpaper-like, close to 120 grit, which is perfect for my use, but the adhesive didn't seem very tacky - edit Dec 8, 2025 - I've found that this traction tapes adhesion is still holding exceptionally well after getting wet several times over during a SUV wash and hit a few times with a pressure washer. I was wrong; the adhesion appears to withstand a good beating. This is what I did to prep the surface area to give it every chance to adhere at its best: I cleaned all of the surfaces where I was going to appy the traction tape with isopropyl alcohol (90%), then I broke out my heat gun and heated the surface prior to applying the tape. Once I laid down the tape, I used a 2" rubber roller to apply even pressure throughout the contact areas and using the heat gun along the areas I rolled. For the plastic top step, I did the same, but I also applied a thin layer of 3M adhesion promoter. The results came out as expected and after a week of use with some water overspray, the tape is still adhering, even at the corners. I was able to press the traction tape into the crevice areas of the top step (see photos) - the roller definitely helped with this and the tape still holds its adhesion to those uneven surfaces. I think this is a win and definitely worth its modest price.

Needed better traction on the basement stairs for the dog. After a few coats of paint, installed the 8” version. Looks great. Adhesive is really good. I used a heat gun and roller to make sure it would really adhere.

Good product sticks well easy to cut but with moderate wear fades easily and breaks needs to be replaced every 6 months

Great stuff. It’s easy to cut and forms easily to your application. The adhesive backing is very strong. I added to my boat steps and after one season they’re holding up great.

This inexpensive traction tape is great! My husband recovering from stroke with very limited use of Right leg. We put this nice looking tape by bed, in bathroom, by his recliner for security. so far durable, not too thick.

This stair traction tape has excellent adhesion. The surface absolutely will prevent slips and falls ... very gritty. The application is only somewhat easy. Meaning that you should allot some meaningful time in order to align and apply it so that it doesn't look amateurish. Footnote: If the white paper backing doesn't completely separate from the product, gently use a sharp instrument in order to scrape the white paper from the black product. One note of caution ... wear gloves while applying. The grit will abrade your fingers.
