I used this unit as a portable Karaoke device.
In my area on a hill, FM is good, AM is poor only one station 1400 can be tuning in. Video and sound are excellent. I used this unit as a portable Karaoke device or just listen to my favorited music.

Great radio for my bathroom
This radio sits in my bathroom for my music fix during showers. It matches my decor to a tee. The battery life is extensive and with the feature of playing my phone through Bluetooth is an extra feature. That was a surprise. I highly recommend this item.

Good video player that does some other stuff
The SM-616 is three things: a multimedia player, a Bluetooth Speaker and an MW/FM/SW radio in the same case. It's pretty much the same thing as the Chinese-labeled Sansui F51, but with English labels and a 10 kHz MW radio step. The multimedia player handles audio files of many formats, video files, pictures and text (.TXT) files that it calls "EBook." Properly formatted (1080p 16:9) video files play very nicely. They play smoothly and with good sound. Files of other resolutions may be scaled or expanded on the fly, resulting in jumpy playback or distortion. I personally used the VLC free utility to convert my video files: Encapsulation: MP4/MOV Video Codec: H-264, Bitrate 2500 kb/s, Frame Rate 24 fps Audio Codec: MP3, 128 kb/s, Channels 2, Sample Rate 44100 Hz I'm not saying that other things don't work, but this combination works well. I found that using a media card with a large number (hundreds) of very short videos will cause the device to lock up, but this is a very unusual situation. 500 audio files, on the other hand, caused no difficulty. Audio files worked well. It is possible to key enter a track number directly and start playing that track. Pictures can be distorted if they're not the right aspect ratio. The text reader worked although I'm not sure what it could be used for. On the radio side, MW channel spacing is 10 kHz and it is appropriately set up for North America. It is extremely insensitive and I would consider it useless unless the device is used in a city with strong local stations. I weakly received one station. FM, on the other hand, is very good, and very sensitive. I got 80 stations in my rural location. One minor annoyance is that a strong station may appear on 3-5 consecutive frequencies. I had mixed results on shortwave. I would recommend a clip-on wire antenna for any attempt at shortwave listening. Shortwave broadcast signals are on 5 kHz channels, but the radio display only displays in multiples of 10 kHz, so this can be a bit awkward. The radio appears to tune in 5 kHz increments, though. All the radio bands have auto-tune storage (ATS), but I didn't find it useful. On MW, it didn't find anything; on FM it stored the same station multiple times and on SW the scan took a long time because it scanned non-broadcast frequencies that this radio really isn't designed to handle. Bluetooth (v 5.3) paired quickly with my computer and worked well. I give the manual an "A-" for readability and appearance. I give it a "C" for completeness, as many things the device does (like a host of menu options and the graphic equalizer) are omitted. The manual also gives some very bad advice suggesting 720p for video files; this is not the device's native resolution and it can cause problems, like jumpy playback or distortion. The Amazon product description doesn't say, but the aspect ratio is 16:9. The primary use case for this device is as a video player and it does that well. I wouldn't recommend it just a a radio. My rating (4 stars) depends on what the price is. I got it for a song on Prime Day. It costs more now. The included video shows the SM-616 playing a video of itself paying a video of itself playing radio. Update: While the device plays stereo media content through the headphone hack, the FM radio portion is not stereo.

AM / FM Radio
A versatile compact Radio. Very good connectivity. Take my favorite AM / FM stations. Sound is clear and for its compact size is pretty excellent. Excellent Bluetooth conectivity as well. Nicely made with a retro look to it. Has a nice handle which comes very handy and makes it easy to carry. Comes with its power cord as well. I highly recommend it. You cannot beat the price / performance offer with this Radio.

Overly sensitive volume knob, USB play not consistent, radio is basic but good
I play this all day at work in an office. I would not buy it again. In fact, I was looking for another radio and this came up and told me I purchased it a short time ago. So I decided to review it. Good: The radio reception is good, and the radio sounds good. Radio stations broadcast good quality sound, generally speaking, so that's to be expected. Not great spec: USB drive is limited in capacity. 32GB. If you have a lot of newer USB drives, you'll need to buy an older one or a smaller capacity drive. Bad: The USB drive is a bit flaky, pretty consistently it starts to do a skip-skip-skip kind of sound, which typically doesn't go away until the next song or you skip to the next song. It happens on random songs and the USB drive doesn't do it on the computer or in the car, so it's the radio. Happens a few times a day. Bad: Worst is the extremely sensitive volume knob, it's from whisper quiet to hurt my ears in about 5mm of knob movement. That side knob kind of volume control, I expect each swipe from top to bottom to be a decent volume change (to turn it really loud requiring a few swipes, and each swipe giving a nice range of fine adjustment). However, the volume control is probably 10x as sensitive as it should be - one swipe of the knob will absolutely max out the volume, turning the volume from "sorry what song is this?" to "sorry I gave myself a heart attack" or "the speakers are fuzzing out due to the distortion" level of loudness. Because it's so hard to fine tune the volume, I can't adjust it finely enough to keep it at a professional level in the office. I tried and was spending every few minutes trying to get the volume right, but it's so hard to fine tune the volume I was giving myself heart attacks when it went to super high volumes. I play it in the office room next door and pretend it's a co-worker's radio. Why not return it? I figure it'll be tossed out, or someone will get a used one but be charged for a new one. So I'm trying to figure out where it'll work. In the meantime I'm looking for a better one for work.

Did not work as advertised. Not a good product.
DlYou would be meter off with ANY laptop instead of this. No where does it tell you the it does not it work well with .mov’s. MUST be MP4’s. Would have been nice if they were honest about that. It will work w/ mov’s for a short time but audio gets off, only plays 75% of the movie then doesn’t recognize the usb drive. The battery goes from full to half them full. There is a reason it is so cheap, that reason is bc it’s not worth it. Buy anything else other than this. I am returning it and will just use any ole laptop to watch movies. Save your money.

Great gift!
I bought this for My Husband for his birthday and he loved it. He brought it to work with him to listen to music to get through his busy workday. He loves the style of the radio as well.
