No it doesnʻt screw on, there is a button you press when you shut the lid over the main part which pushes out air in container leaving the contents air tight

I want to store coffee at work, will this store a weeks worth or more of coffee(ground) at a time and be fresh? can this travel well?

It holds a half pound. Ground probably more. Tight seal that contains smell well. The lid has an air release that doesn't allow it to open unless you press it so it will travel well. A weeks worth? Depends how much coffee you drink ;)
