My vet recommended psyllium husk fiber powder for my dog’s too-full anal glands. She weighs 47 lbs and he repeatedly said she needs 2 tablespoons twice a day. Wow, that a lot according to the label on this package! She seems to notice the smell, but kept eating it disguised in increasingly smelly foods. She’s a fussy eater, so this has been a challenge. I do mix it in water (now dog-friendly broth) but there’s a limit to how much volume she’ll eat, so I just keep adding more fiber powder to about 1/3 cup of fluid. It quickly sets up to thick gelatin. We’re up to 2 tsps twice a day. Her poops are much larger now, and have the consistency of wobbly jello! Unfortunately she is still scooting her butt, so I guess I keep increasing the fiber. She doesn’t appear to be any distress so far.
