Cheap plastic toy

For $20, it's better and heavier than I expected. The Basics: It's weighted well and has a little heft to it but certainly not heavy. This is solid, not hollow plastic, yet it won't take actual swordplay. That wasn't my intention or expectation that it would. If two of these are used for hard hits or you're using this against a hard object, it will certainly damage it. The best use of this product is to practice movement and handling, nothing more. If you want to practice hits, testing against a punching bag or other semisoft would probably work. On the upside, if you damage this, you're not exactly out a fortune and you'd have to hit it very hard to break it. Note/warning: While this is plastic, it's solid and the tip of this can easily be swung fast and hurt someone seriously. It's definitely solid enough that it could break a bone or cause a contusion on an arm. Don't buy this for a child to get their exercise or take out their aggressions. This isn't a toy and it isn't harmless when inappropriately used. Emotional and mental maturity required. Looks: Though gray and uniform, it looks plastic, and it looks more like a kids' toy than it is. The blade is about as dull as the handle on a butter knife and the point is no sharper. This isn't going to cut anything. It has a bit of a steel gray look to the entire thing from one end to the other. The handle simulates a leather strap wrapped handle of a katana, much better than I thought I would. You aren't going to get sweaty and have it slip. The handle is also long enough to get two adult male hands on it with easy and the blade length is probably about 4x longer. Parts note: I initially thought that they had forgotten to include the guard/hilt until I was getting ready to fold the foam wrap for garbage. It turned out that the hilt is inside and taped into the bottom of the foam and very light... so it almost got tossed. The hilt is a bit better than I was expecting as well. Probably about 3" in diameter, it slides down the blade in one direction only and once in position, seems to stay there. While holding onto the hilt, I tipped the katana handle side down and tapped it hard on the floor, forcing the hilt into position. I'm sure you can get it off if you want, but it hasn't come loose yet. So... if you can't find the part, check the packaging before tossing.

Very happy with this purchase. For the price I paid it's perfect. The weight feels good, I was worried it would be way too light but it's perfect. Very sturdy too.
