Works well enough, no problem with video-lag
I almost didn't buy this item because of comments about video-lag but my experience is that the smallrig monitor is good enough for a wide range of uses. As you can see in my video, the lag is close to non-existent. About 1 time in 10, it will show some lag but in each case disconnecting and reconnecting has solved this problem. I am using this with an iPhone 13 pro, nearly four years old and very much not a high end phone anymore. Cropping is something to be aware because the aspect ratio of the monitor does not match that of my phone. As you can see in the still images, the bottom part of the phone screen is cut off. This may be more of an issue when using it in horizontal orientation but it's not a show stopper. My only other irritation is that it only has a single mounting point. For horizontal use this is ok but for vertical use this does make mounting a bit awkward. Smallrig sell lots of joints and clamps to solve this problem but a second mounting point would certainly make it easier. Other positives are the low weight and the simple functionality for connecting. Once connected, it seems to stay connected and I have not had any problems with the connection dropping. I can't say for sure what the battery life is but I've used it for over 40 minutes and it still indicated some battery charge remaining. I paid under £50, and for this price the Smallrig monitor delivers a good result. It's far short of 'professional' standard but it does make it possible for me to use my phone in cage and see what I am shooting much more easily.

Great little tool
Great way to see what you are filming. The only issue is connection - you have to connect it each time you set up, the phone does not remember it as its not bluetooth - also it can flip the image for no reason - but that might be user error! With no real manual to read (RTFM) it's hard to say.

Great if you need it
This little monitor is super cute and quite effective. It hooks up to my iPhone very easily and that’s about that really. It would be good if there was a battery indicator on screen but maybe that could get confusing with what’s actually on screen - you get my drift. You can vary the brightness but that’s all. A dinky but high quality mount is supplied. I’ll only need it about once a week but when I do need it I’ll be super grateful to have it - especially with the magnet mount. Good design, simple operation and seemingly robust construction all adds up to a great little gadget. Shame it doesn’t come with a little case - 4 stars for this.

Fails at what it's meant for
Small device that sticks to your phone with a magnet. Screen is ok although it cuts of the edges. Major issue is that while running any autocue program it lags unbelievably, to the point that the video breaks down. Making it totally unusable and unsuitable for it's purpose.

Pretty solid monitor
Pretty solid monitor for social media content using a mobile. Works brilliant with my 16 pro max and really helps that it’s magnetic so sticks to the back of my phone when in use. Doesn’t add too much weight to my phone either, looks clean and a decent size for what I need it for. Isn’t uncomfortable on the back of my phone either, I’m almost used to it now. Only reason for 3 stars as opposed to 5 is that it connects via WiFi and then mirroring. Easy to use but where I live, I rely on a WiFi connection as the service is awful so I’m having to disconnect from the monitor and back onto my WiFi anytime I need to use my phone which is a pain. For what I paid (having a discount at the time) I am pretty impressed. It’s good quality, doesn’t feel cheap in my opinion but maybe I am biased as I own a lot of products from SmallRig.

Must have for phone film makers
A must have for those who love using their phone for film-making. Sometime you can’t see the screen of your phone due to the angle it’s tilted at, but this will definitely help. There’s a tiny bit of lag, but that can be managed. Easy to set up. Good quality screen.

Just okay
Expected so much! I’m still testing! The only thing is the adjustment of the screen is not 100% accurate. Edit on 10/08/25 When recording the image freeze and huge delay. Expected so much and the item doesn’t delivery what promised

A handy product at an unbelievable value! I chose the "vlog" kit specifically to get the phone mount. And to be honest, I'd almost pay this price for the camera mount alone! Easy to use, Intuitive controls. Build quality (both the monitor AND the mount) is great! Image quality is decent, more than adequate for its purpose. It is "visible" in direct sunlight. But as it is a glossy screen, there is a great deal of reflection. So if outdoor use is big thing for you, i would consider getting some kind of anti-glare overlay or finding/making some sort of sunshade for it. Connection and setup is super-simple. You don't have to download any additional apps or anything. The monitor has its own WIFI signal that you connect to, then simply screen mirror. It boots to an on-screen QR code that you can scan to auto-switch your phone to the monitor's WIFI. But to be honest, I find it faster and easier to just choose it on my phone manually, as I don't have to be there at the monitor to do it. I didn't really care about the little key fob remote thingy. But that has proven SUPER-HANDY to trigger recording without having to walk back and forth to the camera. It paired up quickly and easily following the included printed instructions (not that you really need them - it's just like anything else. just turn it on and choose it from your bluetooth list) it is however, a little plasticy and cheap-feeling, so i'm not sure how it will hold up over time. But it works great currently, without any noticeable lag or hesitation. It advertises a 3-hour battery life. I can neither confirm not deny that, as i've only used it for about an hour at a time. But I have no reason to suspect it not living up at least within reason to its claims. One little odd thing, there is a tiny bit (like 2mm) of overscan (monitor image is cropped) when your device is turned to portrait mode. But it's minor, and considering this is just a framing monitor, it's hardly worth mentioning, and of course, it won't have any effect on the recorded image. Overall, I consider this a super product at an amazing value.
