Micro Puttu Kudam Cooker Stainless Steel Steamer, 0.5 Liter

I was skeptical about some of the negative reviewer's claims about this product. This puttu kudam is as good as any good quality kudam we find from steel shop in India. The kudam itself is well made. We have been using this everyday for a month ( to make puttu and also to boil eggs in the kudam..) we have not find any leaks yet. Good construction of the puttu tube on top. Good handle and lid also. Will buy again!

Very poor Quality and thin material used.

Likes : The puttu comes our perfectly, if used correctly. Dislikes : 1) The puttu maker is of a different brand. I am ok with this. Not sure about the quality of steel though. 2) puttu gets oxidized and turns black at some parts for the 1st puttu. 3) The handle screws are very loose and comes off easily 4) If the puttu powder is filled till the top and pressed hard to get a solid cylindrical shape, the top cyclindrical portion goes off like a rocket and falls out. There are also chances of boiling water spilling out and can get burnt. (Like I got hurt for my 2nd puttu :( luckily my son was not with me in the kitchen). Remedy : 1) apply oil on the cylindrical part for the 1st puttu to avoid oxidation. 2) Don’t over fill or press the puttu powder too hard, as the steam can’t escape out. This will make things worse.

This thing works well. However, it is made of very thin metal and is almost flimsy. The edges are a bit on the sharp side and I am afraid it might cut especially while washing. Steam was escaping from the water compartment. I placed a rubber band that acted as a gasket and seemed to fix the issue by directing the steam through the tower portion.
