Q: I love this item, but I use it slowly. Will it last for several years? Does it lose effectiveness over time?

I use it slowly too, but I think effectiveness will remain the same over a long period of time.

Q: Any opinions on how this product stands up to Botanicare's Pro Gro?

Most of the nurseries with whom I deal recommend dyna-gro (all 3 versions) & I've used it for a long time & agree with them.

Q: why is this being discontinued by the manufacturer??

It is not. Mistake by Amazon. Correction is in the works.David
