FINAL UPDATE, I HOPE! I received a replacement unit directly from the seller, easily installed it where the faulty one was and so far so good. So nice to have ventilation again. Customer service was great after we solved a misdirected email issue. Thanks IPower! UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: finally figured out how to get in touch w seller Ipower. I think they are replacing the unit but have not had confirmation of that. Also, it was not the bearings, it was the motor itself that failed. It locks the blade in position when power is applied, but the blade spins freely in a breeze when power is off. I think the grinding sound during operation was the motor fighting itself, not the bearings. UPDATE: after less than 3 months of intermittent use the fan bearings have become quite noisy. When I put my ear against the motor housing while the fan is being slowly turned by the wind I can hear them clicking. It also seems to be impossible to find any way to contact them via amazon. Two issues. The bolts that mount the fan motor to the safety grate are garbage and should be replaced. I found this out the easy way by finding one of the nuts loose in the box, it’s bolt was stripped just from being assembled at factory. The other 3 were in identical condition. The motor is fine, bearings seem good since blades spin at the slightest puff of air, but it would be a much better all purpose fan if the motor were 50% faster. I use it with a speed control and it is quiet at top speed and more so as speed drops. I’d gladly take more noise as a trade off for higher airflow. It’s installed as a transom exhaust fan serving a porch & kitchen. Mounted from the inside, I had to make recesses for the hardware of the grate mounts that are outside the circle of the fan blade housing. Mounted outside you’d need to make 4 slots at the edge of the hole if you want the plate to be flush.

I installed this exhaust fan in my garage to help keep house cooler. I installed w/ both thermostat & manual On/Off switch. My water heater vent exhaust radiates a lot of heat. You cannot, per building code, insulate the water heater exhaust vent conduit bc of potential fire hazard. The exhaust fan does a good job of circulating air; however, keep in mind, that the air being supplied from outside (wall vent & garage open at bottom) needs to be cooler than the air in garage to achieve significant cooling effect. I typically operate in late evening to early morning to get best cooling & close up garage to keep space cooler throughout day. We just experienced some scorching (Sept 2022) temperatures last week & the exhaust fan ran flawlessly. Finally, keep in mind that this is a 12 inch fan w/ a certain CFM rating. Do some simple calcs to make sure you will have adequate air circulation for your application.

Works great, comes with 3 stripped wires or an 18" 120 plug and wire nuts.

Purchased two for a garage ventilator set up. Photo attached for reference. I have a two car garage in an older house that I needed to vent. The hot cars and Southern humidity were a menace. I built a wooden frame to hold the two fans, and used foam seals around it all. The window is still functional, and can be closed easily. A few screws to keep it in place and rubber backed plates to stop vibrations. They are on a timer that circulates the air every hour, and also if the temperature rises too high they remain on. Build quality is very nice. Hefty, good flanges and balanced blades. Motors are sealed so no user maintenance when it dies. Short cords but a 3ft extension with a 5a fuse is included. Even both running and pulling negative pressure they are about 40dba in my garage - quiet. Packaging could be a LOT better. Included a picture of the box. Literally just a foam pad on the motor, in an oversized box. Both, ordered separately and at different times, came like this.

Easy to install

I installed this on my shop gable around 7/15/23. A thermostat was wired in and it works like a charm. The shop is 480 sq. ft. with a roofline of 15 feet. It cools down within a few minutes of turning it on and makes very little noise. I am happy with my purchase. I noted the date because I plan to update this review periodically.

I purchase 2 of these for my garage attic. First one bearing started making very loud noise a little after 1 year of install. ordered another one and replaced it. Now the other one motor quit working. (I checked power and it was good. Motor was very hot. Apparently burnt up.) Im now replacing these units with Dayton.
