Q: Do you have to hold the trigger or is there a trigger lock?

There is no trigger hold/lock. However, I use a velcro cable strap that I keep looped around the handle. When I want to run the inflator hands free, I wrap the cable strap around the trigger. I so this with my makita leaf blower as it also does not have a trigger hold/lock. Happy strapping.

Q: Will this pump up a raft or air mattress quickly?

Quickly? No. Eventually? Maybe, depends on how large of a raft or air mattress. Might need a spare battery and you can expect it to take some time, this pump has a 50% duty cycle.
