Freeze-dried durian means there's no strong smell when exposed to air. This durian is crispy and crunchy, but can get stuck in your teeth (I guess I was being too greedy and chewed too fast). The flavor is authentic to fresh durian, though it may be a little less sweet ***BUT*** I'd just eaten some really sweet gummies before this, so my taste receptors are thrown off balance. Freeze-drying fruits usually preserves their nutrients very well and durian tends to go bad super fast where I live, so it's nice to be able to eat it at my own pace and have perfectly good durian available whenever I want. This product comes in a big bag and inside contains four smaller portioned bags. The portion sizes are good for snacking. The durian comes in diced square chunks. I needed scissors to cut open both types of bags, even though there were a tear hole on each; they were just too tough. The price is reasonable since freeze-drying is an expensive process and the durian was meticulously packaged to ensure absolute freshness.

This is claimed to be 3.5 oz = 100g of durian. But that's actually what the entire *package* weighs. And the packaging, the outer bag plus 4 little bags, weighs just over 40g. So there's actually only about 60g of durian in it. The little cubes are nice, so you can enjoy a burst of durian sweetness in the middle of something else.

The first thing I noticed about this freeze-dried durian is the nicely sized cubes for easy eating. The fruit was also freeze-dried very well - it was dry and crunchy. Having never had durian before I did not know what to expect. I didn’t love the taste, but if I needed to eat it for a particular reason I definitely could do that without problem. It’s just not my go-to snack. If looking for durian and the associate health benefits, I could see where this would be a good way to store it and be able to conveniently eat it!
