Solid build and performance for the price
Great build quality and works perfectly to extract bitstream audio from HDMI for optical SPDIF output. Sturdy connections and all-metal build. Only downside is that it requires external AC power to run.

Great little HDMI extractor HDA-912
Great little product. I was confused by the hook ups, as I was thinking I could bypass ARC from my soundbar to my projector (the projector is non-ARC) and using the volume control on the soundbar causes the projector to go to its menu and it's hard to switch back the HDMI input after it does this; took about 3 attempts and was a pain. So what I had to eventually do is hook up the soundbar via it's optical out to the extractor's optical output and plug the projector into the HDMI output of the extractor. No Atmos over optical but I never really used that, but the 5.1 sound and picture quality are excellent and no more issues with the ARC or CEC function from the soundbar as there was no way to turn it off. Very happy with it and solidly built.

Great little box
This box works great! As advertised, strips the audio signal from the HDMI signal and gives you a stereo out jack to send the audio to your mixer. I am using this box with a laptop running karaoke software. After stripping the audio from the HDMI cable I run another HDMI cable from the box to the TV for the karaoke lyrics. In my experience this box works best when it’s plugged in and powered up first. Then power up your laptop/computer then the TV/monitor. If the box isn’t on first, it sometimes does not do what it’s designed to.

Overall great
Does what I wanted it for (hook the bluray player up to my stereo). Picture quality seems unchanged and the pass-through audio works well. There is however a slight audio delay between the stereo and the TV speakers. Not a showstopper; I just turn off the TV speakers.

Need power reset after not using it for a while
I am using it to split HDMI signal so that audio can be routed using digital audio cable. It works fine when it works, but after leaving it for a month or so in media room, I find it requiring power reset to get everything going. Without removing and putting the power back in, the projector never detected video signal. Not sure if the device I got is bad or it is just bad design with firmware issues.

FINALLY! Something that can eliminate audio delay
I was using ARC on my Roku 65" TV but I had very noticeable audio lag when I output as anything but stereo audio. If I used optical, it minimized it a bit but it was still there. So I read some reviews and tried this much like how I used to have an A/V receiver to do the same thing. Basically, the HDMI output from the hub goes into this which strips out the audio that I send over to the 5.1 sound bar. Audio lag is completely unnoticeable now. This was always an issue with all TVs I ever had even going back about 10+ years on HDMI... it made playing games almost unbearable... but it made watching TV harder..... it wasn't until I hooked up an A/V receiver and then output that to the TV without the bitstream audio where the audio remained in sync. So this box does that same job and the sync is so well done. This saved me about $200 on buying another 4K receiver too to solve this problem. Now I need a larger HDMI hub since I'm running everything through this now and outputting the optical to my sound bar. ARC is very good... but the lag definitely is not. One thing is that sometimes I get an issue where the colorspace or something is off when I go from game mode with HDR back to regular.... the colors get all messed up. The solution is to put the HDMI hub and this device into an Alexa controlled plug (probably about $20 or less). Set up a routine so that when it happens that it cuts power to both the HDMI hub and this device and then turns it back on 3 seconds later. When you do that, it will fix the HDMI colorspace problem. Annoying? Yes, partially. But audio sync is a bigger one and with the Alexa routine, I don't have to get up when it happens.

Works very well.
Works as advertised! Resurrecting an older surround sound system with optical cables to take advantage of Dolby /DTS from Netflix and a Nvidia Shield.

Dealing with the Annoyance of Bitstream Switching When Connecting PS5, Speakers, and a Monitor
I purchased this product because my existing monitor didn't have an audio port. I connected my laptop, monitor, PS5, speakers, and this product together. I used various connection methods: I connected the PC and the OREI product using an HDMI cable, linked the OREI and bookshelf speakers with an audio cable, and connected the PS5 to the OREI using HDMI. The sound came from the bookshelf speakers and was also output to the monitor. However, there's an issue where I need to manually switch the bitstream switch on the OREI device each time, otherwise, the monitor won't display any visuals. When I powered on the PC, the video output worked seamlessly. However, especially when outputting from the PS5 to the monitor, the need for this switch every time became frustrating. Eventually, I stopped using this product. I resolved this problem by upgrading to a new monitor with an audio port, but that made the OREI product redundant. Before the upgrade, I used a single monitor, and both audio and video outputs worked fine, so I don't believe the product was defective. However, when the setup is mounted on furniture or placed in hard-to-reach locations, this issue should ideally be addressed. Considering there are no problems with HDMI cable types or wiring configurations, it's possible that the product lacks sufficient compatibility and adaptability for automatic switching. While it's not a high-priced item exceeding $100, and it's a budget-friendly gadget, I don't intend to complain. I simply wanted to share this with those who wish to use various equipment simultaneously, such as the PS5, PC, and bookshelf speakers.

Ik heb het product gebruikt voor een Apple TV om het geluid naar actief analoge boxen te krijgen. Het geluid is goed, en het product ondersteund SEC HDMI in combinatie met TV. Ik raad dit product aan.

My BenQ display lacks ARC/eARC and optical out, so I paired it with the OREI HDMI Audio Extractor for my Sony HT-S20R. Setup was straightforward, and it delivers clean audio output with full support for PCM/Bitstream over HDMI. No sync issues, no quality loss. Solid build and reliable performance—perfect fix for non-ARC displays. Pros: Easy setup, clean audio, supports PCM/Bitstream, solid build Minor drawbacks: • Requires external power supply • Relatively higher price.
