I chose the RUGCEL 4500LB.
After comparing several portable winches in the same category, I chose the RUGCEL 4500LB. It offers a well-balanced combination of price, features, and build quality, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. Its biggest advantage is that it doesn’t require permanent installation—just store it in the trunk and take it out whenever needed. This makes it ideal for ATVs, UTVs, boat trailers, and equipment towing. The winch is housed in a durable toolbox, which makes carrying and storage very convenient. The synthetic rope runs smoothly with plenty of pulling power, fully meeting everyday towing needs in real-world use. The accessories are comprehensive, so it’s essentially ready to use right out of the box. Both the wired and wireless remote controls work very well, are easy to operate, and provide a strong sense of safety. Overall, this is a highly practical and reliable portable winch.

Very Handy
This is a great, portable design. Very useful and I highly recommend it. One thing I will fix is that the power cables do not fit snugly. Other than that, great.

Works great
Impressed, I've been very impressed with this winch. I decided to purchase one after using my brother in laws while on a moose hunt. It's a very compact and portable unit, so far I've pulled 3 vehicles onto a car trailer and a snowmobile, it has functioned flawlessly. I bought to have with me while in the north Maine woods. I highly recommend this unit.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!
I bought this winch and within SECONDS of using it for the first time, the metal housing breaks apart when it started to generate tension in the line. Catastrophic failure. I was disappointed, but, because it was my first time using it, and it was only about 6 months old (within warranty period), I figured it wouldn't be a big deal to swap it out for a better one (I would pay the difference), or replace it with the same kind, or just get my money back. The only guy listed for warranty claims was "Charles". He requested pictures of the failure, which I sent him. He seemed genuinely taken back by the unit breaking apart, but he only offered to replace the defective component. I thought it was unreasonable for me to FIX a unit that busted into pieces instead of them refunding or replacing the new unit. He stopped responding. I kept following up, but no response. I sent him a copy of their warranty policy, with a specific emphasis on the last part: "You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure." Guess what?? No response. I was really hoping that this winch would have worked out, because it seemed like a good fit, but alas, it was not to be. Imagine if you actually needed this winch to work (like in an emergency situation) and it fell apart just like it did for me?? Not a good scenario. So, I can't comment on other brands (yet), but I can tell you that I will NOT be buying anything from Rugcel again!!

Portable is better when you don’t always need a winch
With the portable design, I can use this winch in the yard, on the dump trailer and in the truck bed. I added an Anderson connection to the power cord for easy hook up and added one to the battery clamps that came with the winch. Now I have both power solutions. Only other modification will be a replacement of the power cables to better suit cold weather flexibility. Really need an arctic grade wire if you use the winch in the winter.

The case is cheaply made
Have owned it for less than a year, the winch works well but the cases that it is installed in is cheaply made and flimsy. I would have happily paid more for a quality case. The only reason to buy a winch like this is for the case. I watched several videos fron the manufacturer and in those the early or prototype cases look to be much higher quality. But after they go into production they cut corners to reduce cost.

Neat and tidy kit. BUT! Even with the anchor straps middled (half the length) the power leads won’t reach the vehicle battery for self recovery setup. Why?!!! Disappointed that the day after I ordered it, the price was significantly dropped. Be nice to be offered the difference as a refund. I see the price is now sitting at this much lower price point. So, once I make up an extension lead to reach the battery, I intend using a Spanish Burton pulley rig, to gain an 8T pulling capacity (while at 1/4 of the pace). My adventuring style is low risk, however, this kit gives me a safe guard for self recovery should an unexpected event happen. Plus, I don’t want to spend $6K for a bar & winch and constantly carry that weight, plus I want a gentlemanly look to my 4x4, this kit will hide discreetly in the back, only when planned adventuring.

Seems plenty strong I'd say its accurately rated. I really love the case, I leave the line spooled out and just put it in the case for quick set up and quick cleanup after. No need to spool it in every use.

Met expectations and saved my a$$ twice already. Although power input should be a bit more durable and or made into a waterproof plug-in go as it ripped out on first use and needed rk be modified... Other than that it did the trick. I recommend buying your own snach block pully.. the one supplied is prone to pinching synthetic cable.
