Minus33 Merino Wool Balaclava
I’ve been really happy with this balaclava from Minus33. One of the biggest improvements over my old one is that they stopped using the laced embroidered logo on the neck area. On my previous balaclava, that logo would constantly rub and irritate my neck, which drove me crazy on longer wear. This new version is smooth and comfortable all the way around. The fit is great, even for my big head, it’s snug without feeling tight, and it doesn’t distort or pull awkwardly when I move. It layers easily under a helmet or hood, too. I also really like how compact it is. When I’m not wearing it, I can just roll it up and stash it in my coat pocket and forget it’s there until I need it. Warm, comfortable, and easy to carry, I’m very satisfied and would definitely recommend it.

My go-to baclava or hat liner
My go-to favorite baclava. I love merino wool. Very breathable, soft, warm, comfortable. When I don’t have it over my face I fold it back and use it as a hat or as a hat liner under a stocking cap or under my cowboy hat. Machine washable and durable.

Get Over Here!
Best around. Easy to wash and wring. Breathable but will collect condensation around the upper lip, underside of nose. Just wipe off. Keeps warm without staying too warm. Shields from a slice of chilly wind very well. Can breathe through, even when breathing hard. Doesnt smell/taste off. Feels and tastes natural. Good coverage. Good stitching. Good form. Good elasticity. Holds shape, even over time. Seals around the opening. Perspiration doesnt mildew if not able to wash it right away. Very pleased with quality and product.

Short neck!
Based on the picture I really thought this thing would be long enough to fully cover my neck in all types of situations. Turns out it barely covers my neck at all. And I have a shaved head, so if anything, my lack of hair up there should allow it to sit even lower on me than it would on someone else, right? But no, even with a mock-turtleneck on, if I bend my head to look down, an inch-wide strip of skin on the back of my neck becomes visible, while at the same time the material seems to bunch up excessively around my throat. I'm 6'1" and 225, and I wear a 7.5 hat, and this is a snug fit on me. So snug that you can almost make out the outline of my lips. It is a very nice material though, and there are no uncomfortable or awkwardly-placed seams. And it is very soft and breathable. But it will push your breath right up out the eye hole, so when I went to put on my glasses to see how I looked, the very first breath I took fogged them up completely. If you plan on wearing goggles with these, make sure they are EXTREMELY anti-fog, or else skydiving goggles or something airtight, otherwise you're just gonna have a steady supply of lung-steam pouring over and through them. Another thing I didn't notice in the picture was the huge Minus 33 logo on the back left side. If you look closely, you can just barely see it in the picture. I'm not a fan of companies putting large, bright, easily visible logos on something that must have been designed at least partially with stealthiness in mind, but maybe that's just me.

This is the thickest balaclava that Minus33 offers and it's still very thin. Still it is wool so it is warmer than you'd expect. Not warm enough for minus 33 temperatures but it is very comfortable, soft and adequately warm.

Used it for snowboarding and ice fishing. Kept my face really warm and the merino wool kept it from having that smell you typically get from a cotton balaclava. It's pretty thin, but it was still really good at insulating my face. I haven't used it for anything past -15 however.

Really liked the snug fit, closes over the ears & stays in position. Very warm & protective. Even the coldest days I was warm & comfortable.

Thinner than I expected. It does seem like it is well made... But our for our Canadian winters it could be thicker and warmer. I will be keeping it though. I may have to add more layers to make sure I'm warm.
