It's Not Just Hype
Listen, I get it. Everyone has some automotive elixir or magic potion they swear by. "Put this in your tank, and it will be like a new car!" We all wish it were true, but in reality, there's nothing you're going to put in an engine to bring it back to life, or keep it running 500,000 miles. But I can tell you this with complete honesty: Royal Purple was (and continues to be) absolutely worth the money in my case. At around 140,000 miles, the engine of my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee was noticeably louder than it was in its youth. Not a terrible noise, but there was definitely a mechanical clatter that wasn't there before. I'd also started to notice that when I changed the oil, I was getting less and less back out. I'd put 5 Qts in, and 3,000 miles later I'd drain out just 3 or even 2.5 Qts. I never noticed any oil on the driveway, so I don't know if it was burning it or only leaking while running, but it was going somewhere. One morning, after I'd gotten a little lazy and went a bit past my usual 3K oil change interval, I noticed the oil pressure light starting to flicker. Checked the stick and it was just barely registering. Something had to give. I didn't want to be the guy putting a Qt of oil in his old clunker every week (in other words, my Dad). So I started looking around and saw that Royal Purple was making some big claims with their high-mileage oil. Rejuvenating seals and cleaning your engine, that sort of thing. I kept doing more research, and the surprising thing was that more and more people seemed to be backing it up. What finally convinced me to make the switch was a YouTube video where they took the valve covers off an old engine before and after running Royal Purple through it -- there was no denying it looked cleaner inside. So I spent the money, even got the proper filter. Went ahead and did the shorter interval for the first change that they recommend to get the loose stuff out of the system before really settling in to the fully synthetic oil, even though it meant spending double. I figured if it worked, it was worth the money. Well, that was over 20,000 miles ago, and I'll be damned if things haven't improved. The engine is without question quieter, and at idle, is noticeably smoother running. But the best part is that the oil loss has been reduced dramatically. Now when I put in 5 Qts, I get 4 Qts back out. It's not perfect, but considering nothing has changed other than the oil, I think that's a big win. I no longer have to religiously check the dip stick every week for fear of an empty pan before the kid needs to go to school. End of the day, I'm just one guy who enjoys fiddling under the hood from time to time. I'm no expert, I can't tell you how or why things improved with Royal Purple. Maybe it's all just coincidence? All I know is that it's worth it for me to keep spending the extra money. I want to keep my engine running as well as possible, for as long as possible, and to me that means always using Royal Purple.

1999 Yukon SBC
I've been using this oil for my past 3-4 oil changes. I changed to this oil from Castrol magnitic 5w-30. I have to say that my oil consumption way less than with Castrol. In between oil changes, every 3000 miles, I go through a quart. Motor is at 184,000 miles. After the first time using this oil, my oil was very dark. Stayed that way for 2-3 oil changes. On my 4th oil change, I noticed I could still see a faint tinge of purple in the oil. That attests to the cleaning that the oil does, at least for me. This oil paired with a wix XP oil filter work really well for my SBC.

Quality product
This is some good stuff.I use it in my two thousand four pontiac grand prix. G comp and the inside of my engine looks like the day I bought it, and it has two hundred thousand miles on it.Have used this oil for every single mile put on the car and I have yet to replace a single part in my engine because of this oil, it could be different. If you haven't used it for your cars whole lifespan, but i'm not sure all I know.Is my car runs good? And I'll keep buying

15,000 miles? Hold on. Starts/runs smoother.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS REVIEW, as I have made several changes. While I can't say that "power" has increased any noticeable amount, (one to ten horsepower is really not noticeable) it does in fact sound better. It also starts smoother. Running this in my 99 Saab 9-3 is certainly doing it a service, at 126,000 miles. Nothing but good things to say about it. Yes, it's more expensive. But you only have to change it half as often, which makes the whole thing level out on price anyways. Don't forget to get the royal purple oil filter, too. It's worth it. UPDATE Running past the 7000 mile mark on the Royal Purple. Still holding strong. I believe it is recommended to change the oil filter after 6000 miles. Will do that relatively soon.. Maybe. The royal purple oil filters are great. Maybe just a cheap Walmart filter for the remaining 3000 miles id put on it. They say you can go 15,000 miles, but I'm not going to push it. 10,000 for me. Update! Just changed my oil at the 10,000 mark. I will be sending a sample of this oil in to get analyzed. It's worth noting that I am hard on my motor. I race, I drive through steep mountains, and my car is turbocharged. When I receive the results from the analysis I will post a picture here for all to see. But overall, I'm impressed with this oil. I've never had to add extra oil within the 10000 mile interval I chose (other than the time I replaced the filter. that took close to a quart to make up) I replaced this oil with the Royal Purple HPS oil, as I am led to believe the HPS formula is superior, even though I just hit 137,000 miles. We will see. Stay tuned. The HMX results are in! 2-5-16 A little discussion about this. The oil was certainly run very hard. Lots of town driving, and WOT pulls. The engine is turbocharged, so consider that. The Lead levels are way too high. The flashpoint is far too low. Sodium high for no apparent reason. Read the analysis for your own thoughts. This oil, at 10,000 miles, is just not up to par. It is supposed to be good for 15,000 miles, but for hot-running turbocharged motors, I would not recommend this oil any longer than 7,500 miles. Update! A lengthy email to Royal Purple about my disappointing analysis has revealed some new information. He (the gentleman I was emailing) has confirmed that yes, my lead levels are higher than normal for the extended interval. But only slightly. He explained to me the source of the sodium (he said that he suspects I added one replacement quart of the regular RP oil rather than an hmx blend, which may be possible.), and how my 1.5% concentration of fuel is certainly to blame for the low flash point. He then went on to say that typically, your motor should be run on at least two regular-length intervals on Royal purple, before attempting extended miles. This is because of two things, 1: to remove all of the old oil effectively. 2: to prevent filter clogs, as RP oils have an agressive cleaning property. I did not do the two short (5000) mile intervals before going for 10 or 15k. As suggested by Blackstone labs, I will be sending in a sample at 5000 miles. (3.5k away as of 2-24-16) I shall be updating soon. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, I have bumped their rating back to 4 stars for their excellent customer service. I had a good long email session with him, and he was professional. A pro, if I may. After I was satisfied with his answers about my oil, I asked about my transmission fluid. Then he went and researched all of the specifics on my transmission. Everything from model number, to the capacities. 3.6 qt in the pan, 7.4 total.

Love the color but better than that I have had excellent results with this product. Improves my old cars engine. I drive a 2012 BMW 128i coupe and have 222000 kms on that girl. Changed the Vanos selenoids and still had a rough idle at start. Was going to clean the Vanos oil screens but decided to just use this oil to do so and I have no regrets.
