I got these to help me manage some bladder issues I was having. I was getting ready to take a 30 hour trip from the US to SE Asia and was very worried about being caught in an uncomfortable situation if the lavatories were occupied when I was in desperate need. After wearing these more than a few times I think these fit the bill if you are looking for a leakproof layer. However, this requires an underlayer. If you try to wear these without underwear or something else they will make you sweat in uncomfortable ways and you'll likely end up with an unpleasant smell. I imagine the smell was related to absorbing the sweat but I was lucky to be able to complete my trip without having to really test absorbing other materials but I have no doubt it would work out the way I had hoped. A few things that aren't the fault of the product as much as it is my expectations is that these are long. Longer than men's board shorts. As they hang down to the knees it is hard to put on under regular clothing. Yet they are not even close to appropriate for typical venues.
