Manischewitz Split Pea With Barley Soup, 6 Ounce (Pack of 4)

I grew up on these prepared by my mom…..an excellent cook! I’m not as excellent and tired of cooking, retired and resting. These are simple and good.!

I bought the Slit Pea with Barley and it was delicious. Takes about an hour to cook properly, but worth it and great for all the cold weather.

Love, Love, LOVE this soup! And I have for many, Many years. But here’s the thing….or rather Two…..It takes hours and hours and hours to cook thoroughly so as not to have crunch soup. AND there’s enough seasoning for 4-5 times the amounts of included dried pease and barley. And there’s enough seasoning seasoning being mostly SALT, please do not dump the entire bag into your brew or I promise you this…..you’ll never buy it again! It’s That salty! I use about 1/4-1/5 of the seasoning bag, consequently, I’ve got dozens of bags left over from past purchases that I put in a shaker and use on other foods…..namely, veggies. But once you work out the generosity of the Manischevitz Co by giving you too much of a good thing, you’ll greatly enjoy this soup especially if you take the extra time to add fresh, diced carrots, celery, onions, and garlic. Enjoy!

Great quality split pea and good seasoning pack. Value is OK compared to local stores and texture is good once cooked properly. Enjoyed this and will buy again.

Excellent flavor and oh so warming. Very very easy to use. This is how I made it: I substituted vegetarian broth for approx 4 cups of water. Instructions say 6 cups per packet. I used two packs = 12 cups of fluid. Broth was approx 4 cups so then use 8 cups of water making 12 total. Added all ingredients to slow cooker leaving out the small packet of herbs for later. I added.. leeks, mushrooms and carrots. You really could add any veg that appeals. I cooked this on high for about 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally. I then lowered slow cooker (crock pot in USA) setting to low, added both small packets, stirred and left another hour or so. Turned off pot and left overnight ( it was around midnight by then, I was NOT waiting up for soup! Sorry soup you’re on your own 😜 Next day it had thickened even more and was amazingly yummy. I transferred to containers and froze half as I had made a double batch…..great product and will definitely repurchase. Who doesn’t love nice thick soup as winter approaches? Don’t be deterred by the ‘salty’ taste of the small package….it does not taste salty once mixed in. In my opinion it has a slightly celery taste, not salt. I think it wouldn’t taste the same if you omitted this step. Highly recommend this product. If you love soup (& it’s warming effect brrrr) then buy this. It really is top notch.
