As it happens, we've had no occasion to sue it since it arrived, so I really cannot say how it functions in rain and wind. I can say, however, that it opens and closes with great ease, and it certainly gives good coverage. People to whom I've shown it have been impressed. Two adults can easily take refuge under it. It is also reassuring that it has the canopy with vents to deal with wind gusts. The construction appears to be very sound. I'll be sure to test it when the rains come again. But I don't think I'll be disappointed.Update: Worked beautifully on a rainy, windy day, giving good protection to my daughter and myself for an hour or so at an outdoor event.

This umbrella was the strongest umbrella I have ever owned. We were unlucky to receive one that had a small hole in the canopy but it's easy to tell from other reviews that that is a rarity if not a one off. I was unsure of why an umbrella would cost this much more than standard umbrella but when it arrived it was obvious that a lot more work had been put into it. The umbrella as a whole and the mechanism that opens and closes it feels very sturdy. Even with the small hole I was tempted to keep it but instead I returned it and when the weather turns bad we'll be picking this one up again for certain.

Used umbrella once, only to discover that it has a whole in it. What good is an umbrella that has a hole in it? Very disappointed!Update: I ordered and received a replacement Minowl umbrella. I was dismayed to discover that the replacement umbrella had an even larger hole (spelled correctly this time) in it. This hole was almost big enough to get a couple of fingers through. Can't understand I got two umbrellas with holes in them, considering all the 4 and 5 star reviews! Amazon was great -- refunded all money spent on this awful umbrella!

After my trusty $20 Totes dual-canopy gave out in its 5th year of service, I wanted a high-quality replacement. The reviews and description for this pricey umbrella made it sound worth the extra ten bucks!But as soon as it arrived, I realized it was in fact much junkier than the Totes model and not at all worth the price. The fabric is very flimsy compared to most quality umbrellas, the closing mechanism is temperamental, and much of the construction simply feels cheap. I only had one opportunity (the day it arrived) to test it out, but even in a light rain it did not inspire confidence.Upon closer inspection, a suspicious number of five-star reviews stated they'd received the item at a discount for "an unbiased review." Yeah, that's believable... I guess this would be an okay umbrella for ten bucks, so maybe that's why they liked it. Don't waste your money on full price.

Mechanism to Open umbrella is a cinch! Opens and closes very smoothly. Love how big the umbrella is too. You probably can't walk around the city with such a big umbrella, but i like this one.

Purchased this earlier but waited for a good shower before writing a review. This umbrella feel very sturdy unlike those other umbrella for $5 or less which feel thin and can snap at any time. They don't last long so over course of time, I keep replacing with same low end unbrellas. This Minowl oversized umbrella is just that. Large enough to cover myself and 3 small kids at parent pickup. No complaints and seems sturdy, will update as I get more use out of it.

Held up very well for a while, I was always so proud of my nice sturdy umbrella when on campus...Often snickering at the sight of those whose umbrellas inverted in the wind...Well I guess karma has a way of making its way around. During a very gusty rain storm today, even though I was pointing it against the wind, a gust from the opposite direction ripped it open and broke a rod.Can hardly fault the umbrella, but still, stinks to be out $30 and no apparent way to warranty.I did have one huge gripe about this size of umbrella that I never knew before: the handle is (necessarily) very long, so when it's windy, you're trying to keep it steady with one hand down by your hips, suuuuper akward.

Now THIS is what I call an umbrella! Perfectly engineered. Came quickly and well protected for shipping. This thing is so big you could set it on the ground and sit on the ground inside it and be protected. The handle in very comfortable but made of like a spongy material that I could imagine may be hard to dry out if it gets wet when you close the top. Supposed to rain hard today so we shall see!
