I can't write an honest review because I have not used this one yet; however, I CAN write a logical about this reel, based off it's bigger brother. IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT connect this reel to any kite that pulls more than 1 pound. (I am horrible with weighing) I was using its bigger brother today. I was close to 100 yards out, the wind 5mph, kite pulling 6 pounds. As I was reeling it in, the reel knob snapped off. lol What an adventure that was. lol So, with this reel, stick to children's kites only. Maybe use this on some cellular kites that barely gives any resistance. I am a huge fan of this company. All of my kites have come from them. The bigger reel I broke, most likely wasn't designed for the load I put it on. That is entirely my fault. I bought a couple of those 40" butterfly kites that we see on here, for my daughter's birthday. This reel will be PERFECT for them. Even the 50" butterfly kites would be perfect. (you get the point) Conclusion: Don't abuse it by putting a much larger kite that it's made for; and like anything. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. 😁 PS: Sorry I didn't provide a photo. In person it looks really nice, and I am very happy I made this purchase! I happy I purchased the larger reels also! 😁

This is a review of the top end yellow model. A high quality product, very easy to use. I purchased this to replace a different reel (sold by a different company). That reel was way too small for my hand. This one could have a bit more room, but no complaints. I also really like the lock. Each to use and effective. And because it is made of a think steel rod, I expect it to hold up. My previous reel had a lock like the lower end 3 models. I didn't much care for that kind of lock; it was a bit fiddly to use. And since that lock doubled as a handle, you had to engage it from the locked position to reel in line. This product does not have any issues in that regard. The grip for winding in line is very nice. A good size and easy to hold. I wasn't too impressed with the carrying case, but I didn't buy this product for the case. Over all, I'm very satisfied with this kite reel.

We used this unit with a one of the kites from Amazon. The unit works very well on the release, launch and during flight. The one very telling weakness is the very very weak locking capability of the locking knob. Very often the knob can come lose from handling and that is actually quite dangerous to the fingers. The force of the line when the wheel is 3/4 line out, is quite strong and the knob if it becomes lose, will come flying into one's finger and this has hurt. Adult supervision and experience is definitely needed to use the unit; other wise it does very well in all aspect of kite flying. The unit has adequate strength to handle small to medium kites to the max. length and the flexibility to use one's skill when flying parachute type of kites.

This string is nowhere near as thick and tough as the strings that come with your kite!! it claims it’s stronger and professional! I was flying our medium size kite out over Lake Michigan and the string broke, and the wind took the kite away!! it was the very first time using the kite which was $40 and is now gone!!

Does not performs well. Specially for kites bigger than 2 feet

Looking for a kite line winder, I careful read lots of reviews to make sure it would fit my large, adult male hands. I bought this unit based on that criteria and wanting a strong kite string. It sat in my garage for almost a year before I could try to use it (thus the rust on the metal parts). The first time I used it, the thing worked great for about 30 minutes. I was thrilled. Then when I tried to wind the string in, the green handle broke off and the kite unreeled about half of the roll before falling down. As you can see, they engineered it to have a metal part inside the winder anticipating that it would need extra strength. Too bad the plastic that holds on to the metal part wasn't strong enough for the job. Without the knob to reel in string and lock the reel from unwinding, it's useless. Also, the included string frayed on the first use.

This is a great reel to use when flying your kite. It holds plenty of line and is super easy to let the line out and it is fast to reel it back in. The line is very strong and can handle a high wind. The handle is ergonomically designed to fit an adult hand so it is comfortable to hold for a very long time. There is a lock mechanism to lock the reel from moving. I currently have a mid sized kite that I fly on the Atlantic ocean beach in Maine and will buy a bigger kite soon and swap the reel between kites. There is a loop on the end of the string that makes it easy to clip onto your kite. If you are serious about kite flying and want a strong line and holder that is easy to use and tangle free, this is it!

A very sturdy kite reel. It came loaded with some hefty kite string. Great purchase.
