Summary of the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: By Marie Kondo - Includes Analysis : Summaries, Instaread: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: I absolutely loved the book. Marie Kondo's book is brilliant and I found myself referring to it over and over again. I got this Instaread because it has an excellent overview with key takeaways that is fast and easy to refer to in refreshing my memory of the most important points. I always use Instaread summary and analysis books to enhance my understanding of books like this and wish I had read this before I read the book. I know it would have helped me understand some of the points Ms. Kondo made about throwing things out and creating permanent spaces for things so that after that it's just a question of tidying up. Some of her ideas seem so simple yet the effects are so profound.I especially liked how it helped me focus on creating a space with things I really wanted to keep because they made me happy and not because they were trendy. That's a great way to look at belongings. I got rid of things I realized I didn't really like. I was so much happier with what I replaced them with. The difference in effect really made my house a home. That convinced me that Marie Kondo is really on to something with her ideas. What an amazing concept she has come up with. I have this Instaread on my Kindle and refer to it anytime I want to review the key concepts from the book. That's one of the best things about Instareads. They are so convenient and great time savers. The key takeaways distill everything down to what is really important in the book without overlooking any of the finer nuances of Ms. Kondo's techniques and ideas. One of my favorite takeaways is the idea that you can apply Ms. Kondo's decluttering and organizing techniques to other aspects of your life, not just your house. It works on projects, in business, even in prioritizing my 'To Do' list. I got this Instaread to reinforce and apply the most important points from the book.. If you want to smoothly declutter and organize your life, there is no better way than the KonMari way. This Instaread will help keep the most important points right in front of you as you go along. I highly recommend it. Review: Interesting approach! My approach has been "when in doubt, throw it out". Kondo's philosophy is " If it sparks joy, keep it". Of course, there is more to her tidying method than that! I did JUST read the Instaread minutes ago. Kondo's method makes sense but, the reasoning behind it may be difficult for some to accept. I happen to be an organized hoarder- I keep things from my past, as well as, collect things for others and things I may need in the future. Therefore, according to Kondo, I NEED her therapy. I may buy her entire book since tidying, in her approach, will also clear the mind which has many benefits.

I first read Marie Kondo's "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" shortly after it was released in 2014. I put several of the principles to work in my life and saw awesome results almost immediately. Then, I changed jobs and moved to another city - and all bets were off. My life was chaotic again and I went looking for help in the form of something simpler and more brief. This was my answer and it is the perfect summary of Kondo's insights. If you're anything like me and prefer to just have the ideas without the fluff, this is the ticket and it has me back on the right track to a de-cluttered life. Awesome summary.

I rarely write negative reviews but this time I just had to vent. This is the first "Instaread" book I've ever bought and it will be my last. I regret wasting the time and money on this book. Although it actually does a good job of summarizing and analyzing Marie Kondo's book, there is very little useful information here. I wish I could get my $2.51 back.

Not much help--codifies some common sense. The only new idea, if it's new, is a slogan about keeping only things that bring you joy. Good idea, if hard to quantify or enact. You could probably come up with the same notions yourself if you thought about it in a few moments of calm. I gather that the main obstacle to unburdening oneself of extraneous and energy-sucking possessions is the resolve to do it. This excerpt provides a little motivational sermonette--here's how great things will be if you get going on "tidying up," but I think most people have a pretty good idea of that anyway. All in all, if the full book is just more of the same, with more examples ("Rita X was overwhelmed with her teacup collection. . . ."), then this excerpt or abstract would be the way to go.
