The Complete Book of Dogs: Breeds, Training, Health Care: A Comprehensive Encyclopedia Of Dogs With A Fully Illustrated Guide To 230 Breeds And Over 1500 Photographs Review: covers a lot of information - my gf's vet had this in his office and glanced at it. I did not grow up with dogs so there's plenty I don't know about them. the book is organized very logically and easy to figure out. I bought it as a gift for her nephew so he can work on his reading skill and start learning Review: UK Standard: Dogs in Their Natural State (No Docking or Cropping)/ Depends on Your Preference - This is not the most comprehensive encyclopedia. Dogs found in more comprehensive encyclopedia are not found here (e.g., Tosa Inu, Thai Ridgeback, American Bulldog, etc.) However, I do like to view dogs in their natural physical state without docking and cropping, and this is what you get here. The Doberman looks totally different uncropped and not docked. In contrast to other books I have, it gives a different perspective. If there is a photo of a docked dog (e.g., there's a photo of a docked American Rat Terrier), there will be a caption indicating that it was a dog imported into the UK; hence the docking, which is otherwise illegal in the UK. In terms of in-depth coverage of each breed... well, it's an encyclopedia; so, it's going to be a brief overview. However, due to my preference for something different, I gave it a 5 because I can't really "dock" it for what it is - an encyclopedia of dogs based on UK standards.

Very detailed
Tons of breeds. Very detailed. If you’re a beginner, you will be overwhelmed. If you’re well versed in breeds you will deepen your knowledge!

Skip the dog treat recipes.
Good book, lots of information and good quality pictures of the various breeds. This book was published with a UK/European audience in mind. Good albeit short articles on the different breeds and the front part of the volume has basic information on the care and feeding of dogs. And just a head's up, the dog treat recipes all contain garlic. Depending on where you land on the garlic/onion debate re: dogs, you might want to skip the dog treat recipes or simply leave out the garlic.

The book is obviously brilliant but very poorly made. Entire sections have come off after opening it for the FIRST time. As it was a present for someone outside of Germany we are now not even able to get a regund, as we'd have to pay for the return. There's no customer service email address to turn to either.
