How would I connect this to a laptop?

You need a mic/usb interface cable or you can buy a cheap interface with some nice effects. Behringer do both the cable for about £12 and a good vocal interface with effects for about £30. As with all laptop plug ins, you may need to get the cable/interface and laptop to 'talk' to each other which may mean having to download some software but, if the cable or interface appear in your audio settings all you'll have to do is click on it and you should be good. It may all happen automatically. You'll just have to plug in and see. Good luck.

Would this mic be any good for picking up clarinet?

It's basically a Shure SM58/57 in an retro case. I haven't used it with a clarinet but I have with a violin. I found I kept wandering too far away - pickup falls away quite rapidly if you move away from it, and you get proximity effect if you get close- thicker and more bass-y sound. It sounds great and rejects feed back quite well. Looks fab and is well made. Works, but however, wouldn't be my first choice. You need to get in the right position then don"t move. Ear Trumpet mic look really retro and would pick up better - expensive tho. AudioTechnica do mics that would pic up a clarinet better, but they don't look at all retro and are more expensive.

Does this need a pop filter?

Hello, Super 55 have a foam inside. So usually you would not need a pop filter. However, if you wanted to use it for recording you may use a pop filter to prevent unwanted noises in close proximity. Regards, Sascha from Shure

Can you explain how I would connect this to a PC?

i connect this microphone with xlr lead into a mixing desk which is connected to my pc via a usb connection I record using Audacity which is a free recording program I Love the bright sound of the mic for my recordings
