It attacks Streptococcus mutans, the bacteria responsible for tooth decay. It protects tooth enamel. Xylitol is a non-cariogenic substance which means that it is not fermented by the acids in the mouth and it prevents corrosion of the enamel. It does not contain fluorine and its derivatives
