Expanded quickly with a little help. I just flipped it and rubbed the moist layers until it was completely undone. I added it to my plant mix and my plants are doing great.

I love this mulch! Expands out to make a lot. Looks really good! I have used other mulches from nurseries and when I found this is will never go back.

Ideal texture and size, IMO. I use it as a grow medium in fabric bags and DWC/RDWC buckets/totes for hydroponic applications. Expands and separates quickly - just drop a brick in a bucket and add 1L/1qt of water. Clean, odorless, reusable, and far less messy compared to soil mixes. I'd give it 5 stars if I hadn't found occasional bits of plastic in the expanded media. You do have to feed continuously and manage both pH and EC, but it's very easy to do.

These are the perfect medium to break up my potting mix! Its lasted a LONG time too.

The perfect mulch that is lightweight and retains moisture. I placed the brick in a 32Gal. tote added the water and after about 40 minutes the husks expanded and filled the tote one inch from the top. Like the color ad the chip size, well worth the money.
