It takes forever but is well worth it
I loved this project, it was such a pain but it was so fun. It took me about 7-10 hours start to finish. 100% would purchase again but a few notes: - you absolutely need to get a good quality model glue. I got one that was a little more on the thick side and it worked amazingly. It does not come with glue, but you need something serious that sets fast. - putting the books together is the longest and most tedious part. I read the reviews that mentioned this before I purchased it, and they were 10,000% correct. Don’t rush it, do them one group at a time, but also realize most of them are pretty well hidden, so if you have some problems they’ll be unnoticeable in the final piece. - I probably made it much harder on myself but I think it made a difference to sand and use a brown sharpie on the edges of the pieces once they were stuck together. I think it made the finished product more cohesive and the ends blend much better together. - there is quite a bit of room for error on the smaller parts, however the box itself is a nightmare if you don’t fit it correctly the first time. I would suggest, when you get to that stage, play with putting the walls together before you glue the base and first wall down. The bond on the glue I used is very strong, and I didn’t realize how difficult being a little off would make the end of the model to put together. Overall: I would buy this again. For the amount of time it took and how pretty and nice the finished product came out i couldn’t be happier. I got it on sale? I think. But even at full price it’s worth it if you’re looking for a long project.

Great little projects that helps develop dexterity and patience.
I recently had surgery on my left hand to remove an arthritic bone at the base of my thumb. I bought this model to help me heal my hand and provide me with a fun way to get physical therapy. This model is a God-send! My thumb is getting a great workout, but I find I am really enjoyed building this model. It has had a peaceful calming effect on me and helped me develop a sense of joy in accomplishment in something for myself. For those who are considering building one of these models for your bookcase, here are some observations that may be helpful: 1. This model is moderately challenging. I’ve found that while the instructions are excellent for the most part, you will need to use some common sense in things like which edges will be visible and how to run the wiring for the lighting. 2. I used wood glue on the model. I built tons of plastic and flying models as a kid and found that while convenient and fast, superglue will make it more difficult to fix mistakes (and you will make some on this model. Wood glue sets up fairly quickly with the materials in this model, but gives you some flexibility to reposition a part if you need to, or un-do a mistake before the glue fully sets. Use the glue sparingly by applying a thin film of glue to the tab or edge using a toothpick. Use just enough glue to hold the piece in place and no more. And always dry-fit each part before you put glue on it. That will help you numerous times. 3. The parts are precision laser cut and clearly marked. Take the time to cut the tiny pieces of wood that hold each piece during laser cutting. Don’t just break them out - you will risk taking off some of the details on the pre-painted side. Gently sand any left-over protrusions on each part so they will look and fit better. I bought a marker for touching up wood and that cleaned up the unsightly marks left by the cutting process. 4. There is an LED light in the fireplace that I trplaced with a yellow self-flickering LED for a flame-like effect. Most folks with some soldering skill and who know which end of the soldering iron to hold can do it. It adds motion and life to the model and came out even better than I thought it would. 5. About 40% of the time you will spend building this model will be spent making books for the bookcases. It is very tedious work, and will really challenge your dexterity and patience. The makers of the kit made building the 70+ books the first part of the kit. The real fun starts when you build things that go into the box. 6. I saw some reviews that state that the parts don’t fit. I did not have that problem. A few items fit snugly, but fit with a little coaxing. Besides, the model is wood. If something doesn’t fit, trim it with your Xacto-knife until it fits AFTER you are sure you aren’t inserting it wrong.😀 7. Stuff you will need: - Xacto knife with a spare pointed blade or two - Wood glue. You could do it with superglue, but that would be like doing The NY Times Crossword in ink. Apply wood glue with toothpicks. - Tweezers - Good lighting - the model is fairly dark - A work surface you can cut or spill a little glue on. One of those self-healing crafting mats is perfect. 8. Enjoy the journey! This is not one of those kits where you add glue to the box, shake the box, and poof-you have a model. Best wishes. If you buy this model, I hope you have as much fun putting it together and enjoy the finished product as much as I did. I hope this helped.

Lots of work but gorgeous when done.
A fun project and it looks great when finished. Instructions are pretty good except for having 2 extra books upon completion. I put them on a shelf and they look great there. Look at the pictures very carefully for the proper orientation of parts and completed pieces or you will be sorry. Use CA glue for most assembly and wood glue for making books and filling in spaces where needed. I recommend you glue the pages of the books closed except for the one that sits on the book stand. A brown marker is nice to have for coloring in any bare wood that shows. I used CA glue for attaching the lights and securing wires since I felt the included tape would eventually fail. Completion time was about 15 hours if you really want it to look perfect.

Almost perfect.
This booknook is so much fun to build. The details are just beautiful and the style is just what a library should be. Pros: details are lovely, color is very warm, overall easy to build, wonderful look. Cons: this kit does not come with a music box, but there are a big winder hole and screw holes in the back; this kit has difficulty fitting in the back (which I found in two separate kits, one I made and one a seasoned miniaturist made) so there is a slight gap in the back; the lights are exposed and not well-covered which I rectified by making my own "light fixture" and building it into the ceiling; I used a standard, Swiss-made musical movement, but it was slightly too large and required some customization; the lights are on a sensor instead of a touch switch...I ended up bypassing the sensor and just using the on/off switch in the back; the ugliest book configurations are put in the front, with the coolest ones put in the back - that made no sense to me; the trim on the back bookcases could not be put in by the diagram as they were blocked by the stacks of books made. But, realistically, all the cons were dealt with, and mine turned out just lovely. I put my own music box in - Rachmaninoff's Rapsody on a Theme of Paganini, and it's just wonderful!

Worth it!
Bought for my husband. He absolutely loved it!! Some pieces broke during placement. But nothing a little glue didn’t fix. Instructions were very detailed. And it came out amazing.
