An Absolute Steal – Way Better Than Expected!
This has been one of the most surprising tech purchases I’ve made in a long time. Given the £120 price tag, I was fully expecting a "cheap and cheerful" device, likely a plasticky, stuttering mess. Since I only needed it for reading and light web browsing, I was prepared to lower my expectations. However, what arrived completely blew me away. The tablet features a premium metal body and a screen that looks far too good for this price point. While the performance might show a slight stutter if I overdo the multitasking, for almost every other function, it feels like a high-end device. The media experience is where this tablet truly shines. Watching Netflix is a joy, and reading comics or books on this magnificent screen is a highlight. I’ve even used GeForce Now with an Xbox controller, and honestly, it’s good enough to replace my laptop for casual use around the house. I have to give a special mention to the audio. Even compared to my partner’s brand-new iPad, this tablet sounds incredible. The speakers are loud, produce zero distortion, and the stereo separation is perfectly on point. Battery life has also been rock solid. After a full day of constant use, I’m usually sitting at about 32% by bedtime. While my daily tasks might not be the most demanding, it provides more than enough endurance for a power user at home. If you’re looking for a value king for movies, browsing, and light gaming, this is it. Unless you’re doing heavy video editing or pro work, anything more expensive would be overkill.

Unbeatable Value and Quality!
I’ve owned this Honor tablet for nearly a year now, and it’s easily the best budget tech purchase I’ve ever made. It delivers truly premium features for a fraction of the price, completely crushing the competition in terms of value. The 120Hz display is the star: everything is buttery smooth, vibrant, and incredibly responsive—perfect for media and browsing. Beyond the screen, the specs provide rock-solid performance for multitasking and gaming. The fact that it handles daily use so flawlessly after almost a year tells a lot about its reliability. If you need a good-performance tablet that lasts, this is the definitive five-star choice.

Quality tablet
Anyone looking to get a good tablet, with great specs, at a great price knows how difficult it is to find one. There are so many brands, with misleading ads (yes I am looking at you, unbranded Chinese 12GB tabs that are 6Gb tabs using virtual memory instead of physical memory, which are about 3/4 of the listings)... Anyway I kept seeing the Honor Pad X9 constantly when looking at best budget tablet reviews, but the price was more than I wanted to spend and the specs (apart from the 120hz screen) were decidedly vanilla, it's not a game machine after all. After keeping it in my basket for a while I noticed the price fluctuating quite a lot, until it dropped to what I thought was a good deal (which only lasted a few hours tbh) so I took the plunge and bought it. And glad I did now. The pad itself is 12inches large, and yes, it is heavy to hold in one hand, especially if you add a cover and screen protector, so I mainly have it on my lap. The screen itself is nice. I have set the performance mode (120hz) because it has a large battery I don't think I will need to use economic settings unless I am away from a power source. Speaking of which there is only a charging cable in the box, but I have a spare 20w charger so that wasn't an issue. Scrolling is fast, and watching media (which is what I honestly would recommend this tablet for) is smooth and enjoyable. The cameras are next to useless, with too much noise and slow autofocus and honestly I would have preferred to see an extra few Gb ram than something that lets the tablet down. They are passable, I suppose, but I doubt I will use them much. The sound is a little disappointing, I expected the 6 speaker setting to be louder as all the reviews I saw said that the tablet was loud but in my experience it is not that loud. Lastly I skipped most of Honors software on setup and just went with Google, if I am going to have my data harvested I would rather just have it leaving my possession from one source than from providers that I don't have much control over. Overall I am very happy with my Honor Tab X9 for media consumption. You will be too, just don't overpay for it. 4.5 stars

Excellent value for money
Now, if this had a memory slot, it would have got an elusive 5 (I rarely give five stars) It's the only thing missing in what is, otherwise, an amazing tablet. The screen is crystal clear with a vibrant and superb picture. Movies are HD and the quality shows. It's quite responsive to touch too. The sound is, for a tablet, outstanding. It's got plenty of oomph to it with a rich bass and treble. You could easily enjoy both movies and music out of the speakers. Having moaned about no memory slot, it sports a massive 128G of memory, so it's going to be a long time before you fill it. Setting it up was a breeze. I just connected it to my old tablet and it copied everything across. (Including games, my levels and high scores) And it gets on really well with my Honor Phone (It's almost as if they were made with each other in mind) I'm very impressed. If you're not too bothered about a memory sot (and as it turned out, with 128G, I wasn't) then I'd highly recommend this. Especially at the price point

Incredible tablet for the money
I moved to this tablet from a Galaxy Tab A8 which I was getting a bit fed up with. What a pleasant move it's been. It's slightly bigger than the A8, the screen is bright and vivid, the face unlock is very welcome at this budget price point (and works quite well- mostly). Interestingly, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but given that there is no lag on watching the streaming services, YouTube etc, this is no longer an issue for me. I used to have awful sync issues with people talking in shows/ movies/ videos with the Tab A8 when watching using wireless headphones, but this isn't an issue with the X9 (and it's the same headphones I'm using) Speaking of lag, there was always a noticeable lag with the A8 when using the tablet again for the first time in a few hours. Nothing like that with the X9- again a minor niggle but it starts to grate after a while. Moving the UI around feels snappy, no delays, and I'm overall very impressed with the lack of bloatware and unnecessary junk. I did uninstall some apps that came preinstalled (eg. Facebook and similar) but they weren't any hassle to get rid off. I'd recommend this tablet to anyone wanting something cheap and very cheerful.

The best budget tablet without compromises
This has replaced a tablet that my kid was using for the last 3 years - Samsung Galaxy Tab A10.1 from 2019. We bought the Samsung tablet for £209 in 2020 and now the Honor Pad X9 for £179. I can't believe they can make it this good and this cheap when everything else has doubled in price since Brexit and Covid. The quality of the display, speakers, processor, battery, everything is just unbelievable. It's that good, and not just for the price. I'm sure comparing it to Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, which costs £1200, there will be some drawbacks. But honestly, I've used it myself for the last 2 days, setting it up, installing a gazillion games, browsing, and playing movies on Netflix, Disney Plus, Paramount, Amazon prime video, YouTube, YouTube Kids, and it handles everything without a hiccup. By hiccup, I don't mean a slight stutter when switching between apps while having 15 apps open at the same time. What I mean is that the tablet does not freeze for a few seconds every time you try to open a game, switch between apps etc. This is how the Samsung Tab A10.1 from only a few years ago behaved. The Honor Pad X9 is lightning fast in comparison. The screen is great, and the brightness is strong enough for outside use and perfect when used inside. There are reflections on the screen from light sources as on any glossy display. The metal body is well-built from a single aluminium slab. The WiFi works great on 5Ghz and 2.4GHz, Bluetooth connects immediately to my earbuds and the 6 speakers on this tablet are mind-blowingly good. Again, I'm comparing it to the old Samsung Tab A10.1, which had two tiny muffled speakers on the side. The Honor tablet sounds crystal clear for spoken word, great for music, with two speakers on each side and another two at the bottom. The best thing is that you can hear the sound focused towards you. When watching movies, the two bottom-firing speakers are actually pushing the sound towards you so you can clearly hear every word without it being extremely loud. It doesn't have Dolby Atmos certification, but playing some of the Dolby Atmos videos on YouTube gives you a great surround sound experience. You can hear the sound going around each of the speakers, mimicking as much as they can the feeling of the sound in front of you, at the back, left and right. Browsing webpages is stutter-free. The cameras on the back and front are usable but not comparable to a flagship phone. All this for £179 is a steal! If you need a tablet for movies, music, browsing, and not too-demanding gaming, then buy it. It's amazing. I almost forgot the battery lasted a whole day when browsing and watching movies. The only thing I miss is a double tap to wake up. But if you get the Flip case from Honor, it will wake up when you open the cover.

The best value for money!
The best value for money! The screen has a very good quality, 120Hz definitely sets it apart from the competition in this price range in my opinion. The colors are very saturated but not too much. There is enough storage memory for my needs, it feels fast and agile for the modest 4GB of RAM it has. The battery is excellent and delivers a carefree feeling. I also really like the design with its thin metal-feeling body. Overall, this is a great device for surfing the internet and especially for watching content on YouTube. All the applications I have used run smoothly. I don't play games, but I assume they will run well on this device too. This was my first touch with the Honor brand and I was definitely satisfied with the value I got for my money!
