Changed my Life
I must say - as someone who has extreme sensitivity to sound - these DO take the edge off of high pitched or high frequency sound. They make life manageable for me. Whoever invented this is a genius. It is hard to describe. But it’s like as if someone turned the volume down just a bit if the tv was too loud or radio song was too loud. It’s that feeling of relief. They a a silicone outer shell with an aluminum inner shell to keep the shape. Good product. Amazing results if you use them as I have described above. They aren’t noise canceling ear buds.

Helps Sensory Overload (but other things help more often)
Disclaimer: From AuDHD perspective, with the primary concern of sensory overload. If that's not you, feel free to ignore this review. It won't help you. I was highly skeptical of these things. Sounded like some made up woowoo magic. In short: For me, it definitely works. Somehow. I have severe sensory overload issues. These makes all sounds less sharp somehow. I actually purposely walked right by a loud construction site after getting these, just to enjoy the fact I could now. Don't get me wrong - it still sucked, but these helped tremendously. However, I would consider these a luxury items compared to other options. I only use them situationally. To me, a good set of noise cancelling headphones or earbuds are more vital. If you have to choose only one, get those, not Flares. Flares are mostly good for when you have to maintain good hearing (like meetings), or when wearing earbuds isn't socially appropriate (again, like meetings). Also good for windy days where noise cancelling tech freaks out. My current noise-management gear is Bose QuietComfort 35 II (best noise cancellation I've found by far, but uncomfortable after over 12 hours) and AirPods (lighter, comfortable, easier to be active with, but slightly less noise cancellation). Pricey, but if you have severe issues, worth it (at least in my case).

Solid science, failed execution
I so wanted to love these. I tried the regular calmer first. The reduction in panic-inducing sound and background noise from my kids was incredible! My head no longer felt like it was swimming. That is until I turned my head. As soon as I do the left one launched itself to the floor with gusto. The right one loosened to the point of wobbling around. So this time I really dug my fingers into my ears and pushed these suckers in as far as I could reach. They were only marginally more secure. After a quick round of dishes and light movement in the kitchen they had both wriggled their way back to the brink. Depressed and defeated I returned them. Next I learned that there was a pro version with a solid aluminum core. My immediate thought was solid=secure! These would obviously stay in much better. So I pulled the trigger on the absurdly expensive pro version and waited eagerly for delivery. To my utter disappointment these fit even worse than the regular version. Turns out the silicon is thinner all around to accommodate the thickness of the aluminum and the two are not fused/glued together in any way (you can easily remove the metal core). This causes the plugs to flex far too easily and provides near zero resistance to keep them in place. Alas, these will be returned as well. I would be willing to give these one last try if there was a large or extra large size, or a pair that wasn’t so slippery-soft. And yes I made sure I did not have the small or child sizes. Sorry, Flare, I really tried to love you. 0/10 stars do not recommend

THEY ACTUALLY WORK!
They do NOT block out all sounds, they aren’t supposed to, so don’t expect them to be like traditional earplugs. What they actually do for me is, if you are someone who experiences Misophonia as I do, they block out those ANNOYING sounds that feel like they are AMPLIFIED to the eXtreme and happening inside your skull, not merely somewhere in the room or vicinity of where you are. For example, imagine someone is eating chips, and they’re crinkling and crackling that chip bag like a fricking maniac, and crunching those chips so loudly you want to scream or worse, even though you may be a pacifist. Maybe they’re also clicking the end of their pen and sucking on it when they’re thinking of what to write, and when they do set pen to paper, they’re sCrAtChiNg on that paper so loudly you think you’ll go insane if they don’t stop IMMEDIATELY. These ear devices work by causing all of those noises to quiet down, no longer SCREAMING and RAGING inside your skull, driving you iNsAnE. Suddenly any and all of those noises take their proper place in your world, WAY in the background where they are no longer noticeable, as they should be, thank you very much. If you struggle with hearing mouth noises, if you have what others consider to be extreme overreactions to certain sounds, you too might be experiencing misophonia. If you do, I highly recommend giving these ear devices a try. They’ve helped me tremendously. I am not in any way compensated for my reviews. I try to help others sort through this site to avoid making purchases that won’t meet their needs, and hopefully help them find what they are actually looking for. Good luck! HTH!

I read the info on these carefully, and read the reviews as well, took the company's advice about using them for as long as possible during first 24hrs and how to compare hearing with and without the use of calmer pro. And I was genuinely blown away. I am autistic, I also have ADHD and sensory processing issues. I can hear the phone ring in a different class to the one I am in over two classes of special needs students who are very noisy - the only place I could go that would be louder is most likely a gig/concert or theatre! So with that said I found on return to work after Christmas break that I was reaching autistic burnout and getting very triggered by all the noises in the school. I decided to do something about it because I was desperate not to end up in total burnout unable to go to work, so I bought a pair of calmer pro and a pair of loop experience pro in the same order. They both work very differently - loop is a deadener earplug, whilst calmer is not what Id call an earplug but it's form is supposed to reduce distortion of sound as it reaches the ear making harsh sounds feel softer. Calmer pro surprised me the most - it genuinely does make harsh and usually triggering sounds, softer and much more manageable. I don't know how it does it, as there's not even any batteries but I really don't care because it works! It will even soften the harsher sounds of tantrum meltdowns, and the harsher sounds of a stern adult voice! As for listening to music it brings a greater clarity to all the sounds and you notice details that you hadn't before (I tested using a track I know well enough that I can remember all its details and play it in my head without the use of technology)! I also tested it watching a documentary on the Hillsborough disaster - I'm really not keen on the sport in the first place tbh but as a child I went to a couple of live games and that was okay, but on TV the crowds and commentators give a horrible texture to that experience - and what happened was that I was able to watch it because somehow it sounded better with calmer pro. Comfortable to wear all day as long as they're inserted correctly but the instructions for this are straightforward, they don't fall out and very rarely slip (the rare occasion this happens is likely to be after eating, if they're not inserted quite deeply enough). I'm so glad I took a gamble - I think Calmer pro will help stave off autistic burnout for a little longer, perhaps long enough for me to find some helpful strategies to use in conjunction with these. If you're on the fence, my advice is try them and hopefully you won't regret it, I didn't! (I went straight in with the Calmer pros, I haven't tried any of their other products yet!)

I bought these because I have very sensitive hearing, and these really help take the edge off loud sounds and noises. I feel that I am a lot calmer in my day now as a result. I previously bought the original Flare Calmer earplugs, and they worked great, but I decided to splurge and get the Pro ones as well. They both definitely work, but I think the Pro ones do the best job. Really worth the purchase in my opinion.
