Wooden Model Kit: Gutenberg Printing

The finished model is terrific and if you do it right, you can move the parts to show how the press works. Important things to know: long shipping time from overseas & long assembly time, so plan far in advance of when you want to display (or turn in for school project); no wording in instructions--illustration of parts only which aren't very clear or instructive on "how" to cut, glue, nail or screw anything and the included cd is the exact document printed and included in box, so no video help either, kit is basically a bunch of sticks that you must cut to size, glue together to make parts, then stain the parts, then assemble the parts--e.g. the flat table is literally narrow strips that you glue side by side to create a table--I envisioned the kit as parts to assemble in a couple of hours, but no, it is really from scratch and took me 5 days hidden in my home office avoiding distractions, so it would look good enough to display in my classroom. I was gobsmacked when it first arrived and I opened the box. I put it away in the closet for months until I could have plenty of time, and felt brave enough to tackle, but even then, I had to have a glass of wine every evening to squelch the urge to kill the makers of this model. If you understand what you are getting in advance, it really is a terrific project and I'm terribly proud every time someone walks into my class and notices my little beauty on the shelf!

Una maqueta bonita y original que nos permite descansar de tanto barco. La maqueta es sencilla y facilita su montaje las instrucciones contenidas en un CD y acompañadas de las mismas en papel, mostrando un paso a paso la construcción. No tiene demasiadas complicaciones, pero hay que prestar atención a los cortes en escuadra y las medidas exactas de cada pieza. Por lo demás es fácil, bonita y muy original.

Hartos de no saber que regalar a un apasionado de los libros, elegimos una imprenta. ¡Qué mejor! El regalado se ha pasado días montándola, y ha quedado chulísima. Tanto, que la hemos dejado de adorno en la editorial. Y además bastante económica.

This model was a headache from the start. Initially (before placing order) Amazon listed it has ship within a few days. They failed to tell you it was coming from the UK. Once order was placed and shipped, THEN they tell you should arrive in 30 - 45 days. Second problem, lots of parts not properly marked, some in fact were missing and the instructions were all pictures with no explanations. My daughter took on this project herself (it had me frustrated from first few moments). Thanks to her patience and LOTS & LOTS of glue, she completed it just in time for her school project. Buyer beware. Stay away if at all possible.
