I have used saddle soap on leather jackets but not on sheepskin. You are right NOT to use Neates footoil! You could try reputable dry cleaners for advice or a Good Housekeeping type magazine

Having used this for several years on wax cotton jackets and saddlery, I would definitely NOT use it to waterproof a sheepskin jacket. The finish after using neatsfoot is oily, and I think it would spoil the look of the jacket.

Q: Where does come from? I hear too much oil will eventually rot leather so why is this oil used?

Hi, , this is a fast acting, deep penetrating formula containing pure Neatsfoot Oil and mineral oils that will not rot stitching. Fantastic for softening stiff or new leather, also excellent for restoring leather after storage or prolonged use in rain. Can be used routinely to nourish and rehydrate or as a preventative to avoid drying and cracking. If used inline with the manufacturers recommendation and you ensure leather is clean, then apply a thin layer to the flesh side of leather and allow to soak in. If required, also apply a thin layer to the grain side. Re-apply if leather still appears stiff, taking care not to over-oil. Not suitable for aniline or untreated leather, suede or nubuck. regards Shorefields
