Yale P-Y3-BL-PB-60 - Contemporary Nightlatch - 60mm - Black Finish - Standard Security

I bought this to secure a shed door rather than a front door, mainly because I wanted something that looked decent and didn’t feel like a cheap afterthought. The matte black finish was a big part of that decision, and in person it looks clean and well applied, not the thin painted coating you sometimes see on cheaper hardware. Build quality is what you’d expect from Yale. The body feels solid, tolerances are good, and once installed there’s no looseness or rattle in the mechanism. The latch action is positive and consistent, and it feels like it will hold up well to regular use rather than being purely cosmetic. One issue I ran into was installation on an outward-opening door. The instructions state the latch can be reversed, but they don’t clearly explain how. In reality it’s straightforward: open the case, pull the latch striker out, flip it upside down, and reinstall it. Once reversed, it worked flawlessly. This isn’t difficult, but it’s something worth knowing in advance as the documentation could be clearer. My only real criticism is with the screws that fix the key barrel to the latch body. Yale uses flat-head machine screws here, and the heads are very easy to damage with even modest torque. A Phillips head would have been far more forgiving and more appropriate for this kind of installation work. It’s a small detail, but it stood out on an otherwise well-finished product. Overall, this is a well-made nightlatch with a modern look and solid feel. Good value for money if you want something more substantial and better finished than generic shed locks. Just take care with the barrel screws during installation.

Very happy easy to install dose what it needs to do

Attractive latch/lock in a mat black finish - looks good on an antique oak door. Easy to fit & it feels a very sturdy quality. Poor internal grip (one-handed operation near-impossible). Only two (very miserly of Yale) keys supplied & unable to have spares cut as lock used on external door for a holiday home abroad. I would buy again - especially if lock is fitted to a UK property. There are far worse night latches out there. Eighty percent recommend.

Very sturdy lock which appears to be solidly built. Only downside is the lack of grip on handle type thingy. 2 hands needed to open door or attach a couple of “glue spots”.

A nice lock very sturdy although when you put the bracket on the door and bolt the tumbler to the other side of the door you then need to slide the lock onto the bracket whilst slip the tumbler bar into the lock it got rather fiddly but it’s doable with patience.

This is what a night land should be. Not the easiest night latch to install. Bit the best quality I've seen in the month of Sundays. I need four more! Hope to start cold out

This is a good lock , the problem is it came from England . I tried to get extra keys made but no one has them because there from the UK . I'm having to order online from the UK . So make sure your order is from the US .
