These are a world apart from regular pencils…
If you’ve only ever used regular pencils… these are like a whole different thing! They write and draw BEAUTIFULLY! They have very little friction on the page, and really do feel buttery. I’m a musician / composer and I love writing with these in a good manuscript notebook. I think they’re likely nicer for writing music than the 602 (which is more famous for novel writers and is a harder compound) but next I would like to try some of the even softer matte variety, to see if they’re even easier when writing out a load of crotchets / quavers etc.

Worth the extra cost
Bought these for writing music on the recommendation of my classical guitar teacher. Was a bit sceptical about paying so much for pencils but I think they’re worth it. A very hard wearing 3B pencil with an extendable rubber (eraser over the Atlantic!) - nice balance and clear black notes and beams. Glad I took her advice.

but a really nice pearlescent white - capped with the signature Palomino Blackwing ...
Upon opening the box, the 12 pencils look astounding in all their pearly white glory - not a regular matte white, but a really nice pearlescent white - capped with the signature Palomino Blackwing rubber tip - gold with removable black eraser stubs. I quickly ran to grab a sharpener as they all arrive having not been sharpened, as expected. Perfectly sharp the first time round, no broken lead :) Writes extremely smooth as compared to the popular Staedler Noris - from which you can hear the friction, but whilst smooth, definitely offers a darker mark with less effort than the Bic Evolution.

Top notch pencils
You might be thinking if you need such expensive pencils, but if you do a lot of handwriting in pencil then they are very much worth it. They are comfortable, sharpen neatly and have decent erasers. I would recommend using a 2-stage sharpener to get the best results. If you think about it you are getting 12 so the price per pencil is not bad at all.

Only 11 pencils...
I have used these pencils for years so I know they are excellent quality and worth the higher price, but this is supposed to be a 12 pack and only 11 came so I can't give this 5 stars

Best I've used!
Absolutely in love with these pencils! I got a free one in a subscription box and needed more and the pearl option was the closest I could find to a 2b.

Glad I took a chance on this.
One of the best pencils ever made. This is the "balanced" hardness. A bit harder than the softest, but not as hard as the firm and extra firm grades that are also available from Blackwing. I use mine for general note-taking and for underlining and writing in books. Excellent quality cedar makes for perfect sharpening.

Expensive but worth it
I bought these for calligraphy and they are SO soft that rubbing them out is effortless. Will definitely be buying again.

They feel like silk when writing with them. The story regarding their usage by other important people has the inspiration role. They deliver what they state and from my perspective they inspire to chanel my thoughts from mind to paper. I would recommend this product for the experience that it provides
