Solution to problems beyond mere darkness!
Most IP CCTV cameras these days come with integral infrared LEDs (there's a LOT of abbreviations in this sentence so far!), so why would you want a separate IR illuminator? And why choose this one? Let's have a look... The built-in IR LEDs in most cameras are perfectly adequate for typical applications, like using the camera to cover a doorway or alley. However, when it comes to larger spaces or greater distances between camera and subject, they can be a bit puny. The addition of a separate IR illuminator can greatly extend the camera's coverage. But that's not the only benefit I've found... If you've used CCTV at night, chances are you'll have encountered 2 related issues. Firstly, moths and other nocturnal insects seem drawn to the infrared light. That can play havoc if your camera has motion detection functionality, as the flying critters will trigger it on a very frequent basis (i.e. hundreds of times in a night). That renders the motion detection virtually useless. Secondly, because there's lots of insect activity, our little eight-legged friends just love building webs over the lights. They must think it's brilliant, having their dinner drawn irresistibly towards the light! There's the added bonus that it's nice and warm in front of the IR light, so you'll find spiders cannot keep away! The combination of insects and webs can ruin even the best CCTV coverage. Take a look at an example in the photos! When there's dew in the air, the webs are practically impossible to see through! Adding an external IR illuminator can help minimise these issues, provided you mount it a little way from the camera. The insects will be drawn away from the CCTV device (particularly if you can switch off its integral LEDs), therefore spiders will be less inclined to spin their evil traps right in front of the lens. Bonus!! So here's what I like about this IR floodlight: - Simple to install. - Good quality bracket. - Attractive design. - Comparatively small. - Great build quality. - Good IR light output. - Built-in lux sensor to activate at night. Things I wasn't so sure about: - You will need to source a compatible power supply, which will add a little to the total cost. Thing I definitely didn't like: - Nothing! It's very good! In summary, this is a great little lamp that looks good and works admirably. I'd definitely buy another! *** If you've found this review useful, please hit the "Helpful" button. It does automatically come on and switches off, but its more suitable for smaller areas. Requires a separate low voltage power supply which is not supplied.

This spotlight has much better range than I was expecting. The included power chord is fairly short, about 3 feet, so I had to run an extension cable to it. The day/night sensor seems to work well too. I haven't been able to verify how weather proof it is yet but I will update if any issues occur.

I got this for a couple of reasons. It works very well allowing my camera having much better night vision on the side of my house. I have this installed pointing directly from the line of sight out of my laundry room window in the back of my house. My Camera is actually on the front side but pointing perpendicular to the direction of the IR flood light pointing down one side of my property. I've done something similar with other cameras I have, and they, including this one help tremendously extending the range of my camera's capability. This one allows me to see a location with a wider field of view clearly that I couldn't before. I live in a small neighborhood on top of a mountain with the only thing behind my property being dense woods and about a 50-foot drop to a lake. I almost hate to mention the second reason. I have a neighbor who has a camera installed that points directly into my laundry room. It's location I can't understand it protecting anything at all of his property because it's two stories high and appears to be just for my laundry room window. I have asked him nicely, more than once, there are no city rules against it, have consulted an attorney and keep being told that yes, that is an invasion of my privacy, but I have got nowhere on getting anything done on it. I did install blackout shades, but it's nice to have light in that room and since it's the laundry room, yes there were times clothes were changed in there by myself and my little lady not knowing about the camera at the time. It was a year and a half after he moved in before I really noticed exactly where that camera was pointing. I do know when I installed them for use with my other cameras, his got moved. I couldn't leave my house without him seeing it. I even moved my garage door opener when I realized he could see any codes I may type in. This location was more challenging of an installation because the elevation, so what I did was mounted it to the inside window. I removed one of my wireless cameras and pointed it directly at this light and all that it could see a bright white spot. This most definitely helps monitor one side of my property and now crossing my fingers somebody else's camera gets moved.

Wow! This is really bright. Lights-up an area of probably 50' x 150' like day. Housing is very sturdy with lots of heat sink area.

people who make cameras are in the business to sell them. if you put the lamp and the lense behind the same glass, the range is limited. i extend the range of my cameras with these, up to about 300 or so feet. being in a forest, i cant get better range. they are 110, but could be powered with solar and a battery, 12V 1amp, so the distance to set them is up to you. while you can see a red glow if you look at them, the light is invisible to the human eye. i will be buying more, they work very well.
