a gift that hit the spot
I bought this DVD for a nephew who adores cartoons. We all had to sit through at least some of them with him. It was worth it - they're funny & he loved them. A trip down memory lane for the older people amongst us.

The Best Of Termite Terrace
What can I say, if you are interested in animated short films then this is a collection of the very best made by the studio that produced some of the funniest cartoons of them all. They are all here Porky Pig, Sylvester, Tweety Pie. Roadrunner, Wiley E. Coyote, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam and of course the wonderful Elmer Fudd. These cartoons were made by some of the best animators in the business people such as Fritz Freleng, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones this collection includes such classics as 'Duck Season, Rabbit Season', 'Duck Amuck' and the wonderous 'What's Opera Doc?' which distils Wagner's multi hour Ring cycle down to six minutes!!. So with this collection you get 4 DVD's of animated brilliance from the Warner animation studios which was known affectionately by it's occupants' as termite terrace.

Why aren't they on TV?
In the 80s and 90s these were on TV every day - sandwiched between sport events or introduced by the mighty Rolf. These cartoons were Oscar winners, up there with the best of Tom & Jerry. But now..... you can't see them anywhere on TV. I'm guessing the frequent beatings the characters take are considered a bit much by today's standard - in fairness, watching them now it is sometimes surprising to see the hilarious brutality. Thankfully these shorts are now available on these incredible (and cheap) collections. All the classic episodes are here, but some of the stranger shorts I don't recall seeing, so it's a real treasure trove. I just watched an early road runner episode and laughed as much as I did back in the 80s when I first saw it. In addition, the extras are genuinely interesting, with fascinating early cartoons and interviews with all the surviving creators. I'm rationing myself to 2 episodes a day to make them last and protect my sanity.
