No it wouldn't be of much use for hyperventilation other than as a concentration displacement therapy.

It has flexible and adjustable straps. Weather they ensure good seal is anotger story.. the air filled contact surface helps a lot with it though .

Q: Can you replace the valve???

yes you can. But I cant remember where you get them from and they are about three pound each I think. If you are using them for yourself or training then I have found that you can wash them in bleach and water then rinse in fresh water. seems to do a good cleaning job for most normal contamination. would not use again for positive by really bad contamination.
