Good value
Performed OK as unpacked, though the blade could have been sharper. Still, it was reasonable for the price.

Very sharp
My first Japanese pull plane and must say it's extremely sharp. But not sure about the way the blade is held into the block. It's tight in the summer but comes loose in the winter. If you look at the other makers of these they have a better way to hold the blade tight. It's such a shame as its so sharp and so enjoyable to use.

Needs a chipbreaker
The wood dry up and the blade is now fitting so loosely, there is no way to set the depth of the blade.

Great hand plane! It comes sharp out of the box, which not even all premium ones will. It took about 30 minutes to tune up. This is standard for even more expensive Japanese planes. The size was as advertised, though I wasn't expecting it to be nearly as heavy as it was. I was able to use it one handed and still took red oak shavings as well as pine from Home Depot. It took paper thin shavings down to thick heavy curls. Use the hammer to tune the depth of the blade and you'll have your desired shavings! Overall/TLDR: EASY TO USE, SET UP, and excellent value! It is easy to adjust, and will last a long time!

Japanese plane with acceptable quality

Beautiful little plane. The iron doesn’t look like it’s forged, more like stamped out of plate steel and it’s definitely not the kind where a Japanese smith has fused a high carbon steel piece onto a softer one. Nevertheless, right out of the box, it’s sharp enough to take fine shavings. After sharpening the iron and setting it properly, it’s even more of a joy to use.
